VS 2021 Ultimate install

Post by theavy »

I just purchased the 2021 Ultimate (download version) and was a bit surprised that when I ran the installer, I wasn't given the option to specify where I wanted VS installed. Is that standard procedure now? I've always had that ability in the past.

It is there. Did you skip the custom install choice in the installer? you won't be offered an option if that radio button isn't active. You also have to choose the location you want (buttons with 3 dots at the end of the path/folder lines, pre-filled with the default location, noting that if you have prior versions from 2019 installed the share page location (the installer calls it content 2) is greyed out and not changeable.
Beyond that, the current version (help/about) is 24.1.0.299
If you - like me - run on custom installs not in the default C drive, and you've been careful about it, then my best suggestion is to uninstall, cleanup, then re-install with a lot of care in the opening pages of the installer: if you choose custom and don't specify a location, the default is where it will be.
Keep in mind the 30 day limit after purchase - if CVS2021 isn't doing what you expect then you still have the refund option, up to 30 days.

Thanks for the reply David. I was looking for a custom choice, but don't recall seeing it. I'll go with the uninstall and cleanup, and give it another try.

Thanks!
