VS9 not starting correctly

I have just upgraded from VS8 to Vs9 and after picking a program on the main screen like VideoStudio Editor. The scerrn blenks on then cancels the program. Please give me some help.

I had the same problem after upgrading from VS8, so I downloaded and installed the VS9 patch from the Tech Support web site. Then it would give the following message whenever I tried to start VS9:

Codec TrialActivation has a serious error.

Finally, uninstalled both VS9 and VS8, then reinstalled only VS9 and inserted the VS8 CD to authenticate the upgrade. Now VS9 seems to work (at least it starts), however haven't actually had the chance to capture/edit with it yet.
