DVD MF4 is very slow?

Post by nachansson »

Hello,

When I open DVD MF4 it is incredibly slow to open, add thumbnails for slideshows and takes an eternity to create a DVD folder or burn. Can anyone help?

It takes 1 hour 40 minutes to create a DVD folder with just a 15 minute slideshow and normally crashes.

I have a AMD Athlon 3200 with 512 ram and 2 x 200gb hard drives.

Thanks

Have you downloaded and installed the 4.02 update?

I have 4.03 but it is still incredibly slow. The program is slightly faster but when burning to DVD folders it runs for 20 mins gets to 22% complete for converting title and 2% total and then crashes. It is a slideshow with 200 jpeg images, each about 700k in size, a motion menu and some background music(wav format).

I phoned Ulead and the guy basically told me that everyone is saying the same thing and they have no idea what is wrong but to keep updating it.

See if this method improves performance.

While on the timeline and the slideshow is created: (Save the Project):
Click on the 3rd Icon Down on the left of the screen (Export Icon)->"Customize"
Make sure "Save As Type" = MPG
Click on "Options" and manually set the following encoding parameters.

NTSC Settings: (Change appropriately for PAL):
Data_Track = Audio and Video
Frame_Rate = 29.97
FrameSize = 720x480
Aspect Ratio = 4:3
Disk_Type = NTSC DVD
Quality = 80
Video_Data_Rate = Variable 6000
Audio Format = Dolby Digital Audio 16bit 48khz at 256kbs (Default Choice)
or
Audio Format = Mpeg Audio 16bit 48khz at 224kbs
or
Audio Format = Lpcm Audio 16bit 48khz
Click "OK"
Give the slideshow a name then hit "Save".
The program will start converting the slideshow to a video (mpeg2 file).
After the conversion is complete exit the program and start a new progject , click on the "Import" Icon and import the video you just created.
You can Export as many slideshow videos as you want, then import them into a new project.

If you get an error when creating the video it would show up here.
This is the samething that MF is doing in the output stage except you can manually control it. Plus the video is already dvd compliant and no rendering is necessary (unless you edit it).

Also in the "Customize" screen you can SAVE those settings as a "Template" for future use (or create a custom template).

Hope this helps,

MD
