Hello all, I'm a new user for Videostudio 2021 Ultimate. I'm trying to apply a pan and zoom effect to a photo, however, I would like the marquee to be in portfolio orientation not landscape. When I rotate the marquee using a corner tool, it applies a spinning motion, but doesn't change the orientation. Is there something I'm missing or are the marquee dimensions locked in?
Thank you!

Re: Pan and zoom marquee ratio / orientation
Several suggestions to P&Z to a portrait pic in 2021:
- because it's portrait (9:16 aspect ratio), the image does not go well on the timeline
- put the photo into the overlay track; select it: this allows you to select and size/locate it to suit (detail in the preview window)
- the 2021 P&Z tool has a quirk that does do not allow a transparent background allowing it to superimpose on a normal photo or video image as a background. And you cannot de-select the mandatory choice of a background colour. Not an issue for a normal landscape image, but very off-putting for a portrait. The effect of P&Z on a portrait image using P&Z is that the result has black bars (the sides tops of the back background not covered by the image) around it: most users find that offensive to the eye. It's been bugged and there may a solution - some day? To get around this, several steps:
1. put one of the sample block colours into the main timeline above the photo - so the photo sits in the sample colour background. Size and locate on the background to suit. Note the RGB colour numbers below the sample block colour you chose - you are going to use those to choose the background colour for the P&Z step.
2. select the portrait photo in the overlay track and then choose the P&Z tool. while you cannot deselect the P&Z background colour, you can change it (to something more pleasing to the eye) using the eye dropper: click on the colour box, and change the RGB colour numbers in the panel that opens to those of the sample block colour you chose. Now the P&Z background colour will merge with the block colour in the TL - no bars.
- adjust the P&Z controls to give the degree of pan, zoom and position you want for the photo

Hi Blatts
And welcome to the forums
Another option is using Customise Motion to rotate the frame
Right click the image for Motion – Customise motion
Set Z to 90 or -90
Set Size to fill the height of screen or your chosen size
Position the image anywhere on screen
Right click the first red keyframe for Copy and Paste All
Or
Double click the image to open Options panel, Edit tab has Rotate Left and Rotate Right options just below the digital clock
