Stop Motion - missing files

Post by LewZee7133 »

About a week ago I created a stop motion video (in X10). It was successful and I inserted it into my VSP with other video and titles. Now when I go back there is nothing there but the horizontal black and white stripe in the timeline. In VSP Edit there are no files listed, and none in the folder. I can't find them anywhere. Not in my recycle bin, nowhere. Any idea on how to recover them. (the models I used to make the stills are gone and this cn not be recreated.)

A vsp of course is not video, but a small text file indicating what actual video is in the project, where it is located and what editing was done to it. So you might have an actual video and inserted it in the timeline, and then saved the vsp of it (File > Save). However, if you did, can we assume that the video was not created on an external hard drive or USB stick drive which is no longer connected to your computer when you open your main project vsp again? Do you get an error messages from VS suggesting that a relink is necessary? If so, then you need to plug in that external drive again.

Ken, I understand that the VSP is not the actual video. I did not get to the point (Share) where I would create the video, just assembled everything in the Edit mode. Do you know when I create the video out of a number of pictures (JPG) it creates what I believe is a "*.UISX" file. I can not find either the UISX file nor the individual JPG frames. If I accidentally deleted the file in VSP I guess there is no chance of recovering it, not saved anywhere?

When using VSP stop motion and still frames are created (JPGs) are those JPGs stored anywhere? I see that VSP creates the UISX file containing the stills. I can't find either.

From Capture – Stop Motion the Capture Folder is shown on the panel to the top, I assume defaults to the Working Folder.
It is here that UISF (Ulead Image Sequence Files) are saved along with copies of images used, the folder named as the Project Name. (Stop Motion Panel)

A thumbnail / clip of the UISF is placed in the main programs Samples library folder.
Right click that clip for Locate on Computer will help in finding those files.

The UISF is similar to a VSP in that it contains the editing details and links to the images.
It is important not to delete or change the images as that will cause a relink request with the images showing as Black and White clips.
Having said that Re-linking for UISF is a little different to VSP re-linking, basically can be difficult to do and may give other warnings.

Make sure that F6 Preferences – General tab – that Relink Checking is selected.

Iata,

I tried all of the steps you mentioned. Nothing found. I also searched the entire PC both by:
*.* (this month)
file name of *.uisx (you had uisf)
file name of *.jpg (this month)

Looks like it is gone. Thanks for the suggestions.

apologies for the typo

The files should be saved to the same folder as showing in Stop Motion panel as Capture Folder
