Hi all,
New at this stuff...
I managed to get one video published that came out pretty good.
This latest one is problematic though, even though it's shorter... and I'm not sure what I'm doing different.
The colors and audio are great in the project, but when exported as an mp3, the red colors are orange, and there's a screechy alieny echo in the background. The sounds gets worse when uploaded to youtube - https://youtu.be/ANiiy6Uf4zQ
I've tried the setting indicated in the screenshot attached, and also tried 'same as project settings' and 'same as first video clip' and got the same thing.
Or is is just that I don't have enough processing power?
Appreciate any suggestions!
Chris

Re: Orangey reds, screechy echoy sound
Have you uploaded the correct clip, because when played on my systems the sound is fine, no screech or echo, red shows a light red but not orange

Without time codes, it hard to know what you're referring to. Are you talking about the slide at https://youtu.be/ANiiy6Uf4zQ?t=113 ? Without the source material it's impossible to judge colour accuracy.christopheran wrote: the red colors are orange
What is the time code?christopheran wrote:there's a screechy alieny echo in the background.
Why are you rendering a talking head and slideshow at 120fps? YT has reduced that to 60fps but a frame rate of more than 30fps doesn't seem warranted.christopheran wrote:The sounds gets worse when uploaded to youtube - https://youtu.be/ANiiy6Uf4zQ
Did you accept the VS option to match the project properties when the 1st video clip was added to the timeline? What are the properties of the talking head clips?
Unlikely, but your profile is mute on your CPU. In any event, the VS2021 processor requirement is: Core i3 or AMD A4 series for standard videos, and Intel Core i7 or AMD Athlon A10 for HD and UHD videoschristopheran wrote: Or is is just that I don't have enough processing power?

My comments match Roberts: when the link plays - altho I only played it for a short time - there's no echo in the sound and the red is light, rather than deep. In passing, despite colour variations that logo is very similar the London UK underground's so you might want to check on copyright. see screenshot
Your original post mentioned mp3 - which is an audio only format. I assume that was a typo since the attached image shows mpeg-4 selected.
tletter's remarks about time code are so we can identify where in the clip (eg,3 mins 30 sec from start) the issues you describe are occurring.
As for computer power - more power generally would mean a faster render, but not shortcomings in the final rendered article. Conversely, a lower powered PC would take a bit longer to render. A rule of thumb yardstick for render times - for mpeg-2 about 1,5 times the time duration of the project file, for mpeg-4 a bit more than twice the vsp time.

Re: Orangey reds, screechy echoy sound
Thank you RobertOZ, tletter, David K,
So... I wonder if I was getting a low quality stream from Youtube? The color looks fine now.
I'm still getting bad audio though. I can hear it through the whole video. The sound is good in the project when I play it. It's just bad on the exported mp4 (yep, 4, accidentally wrote 3 before) and worse on the youtube video.
I recorded my computer audio as I played the video on youtube, it can be played here: https://andrews.com/sample.mp3 (actually sounds worse recorded than when played on the video, but the same sounds). Or I can hear it at: https://youtu.be/ANiiy6Uf4zQ?t=27 Tried on a different computer and got the same poor sound quality on Youtube.
The processor is: Intel Core i7-4710MQ CPU @2.50GHz, 2501 Mhz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors (thought I had saved that before, but apparently it errored out do to the decimal pts).
The properties on my tracks - I haven't paid much attention to that, just don't know enough yet, but for my first track video and audio I have:
and for the second (talking head) portions of the video I have:
Thanks for all of your time, comments and help - there's a lot to learn!

Re: Orangey reds, screechy echoy sound
The highest quality YT stream for your video is 1080p60. You can easily check the quality of the YT stream in the player in your browser (see fol image).christopheran wrote: So... I wonder if I was getting a low quality stream from Youtube?
Comparing your mp3 file to the YT audio, I don't hear a major sound issue, but perhaps you have better hearing.christopheran wrote:

There's nothing amiss with your hardware.christopheran wrote:

This clip is 25.002 fps, yet you're rendering it at 120 fps. This will not render optimally. As well, the clip is 1704x960, which isn't FHD (1920x1080), and has a low audio bit rate. For example, the audio CD bitrate is 1,411 Kbps, yet your source is only 74 Kbps. In short, some of your source clips don't have the quality required to produce a good quality FHD video with excellent audio. Perhaps your recording on a smartphone, in any event, you might want to examine how you're recording your source clips and try to increase the quality of them.christopheran wrote: for the second (talking head) portions of the video I have: samp2.png
Bottomline, is that your YT video seems OK, although the switch between the two wildly different female and male voices is a bit disconcerting.
