Audio not sync with video

Post by Blokje44 »

I am using Videostudio X7-pr0o. That works okay.
I want to move over to VS2021. But after downloading and installing it, the audio of the movies I have in my projects is not synch with the video.
The audio is about 1 second late.
Anybody knows how to solve this, before i decide to buy VS2021?
Thanks for your help.

First I would suggest if you are intending to open your X7 project files using 2021 then make a copy so you retain the originals to open with X7.

Any project you open and save using 2021 will no longer open using X7

I would suggest you complete your projects using X7, using 2021 for new projects.

As for the "out of sync", 1 second is a long time, I cannot imagine what could cause that, even project properties being different should still be in sync.

Is the audio on music tracks or embedded in the video track?

Goodmorning tletter,
For some reason I did not got a notification of your post. So today I see it for the first time. The problem is still the same.
I import a movie from a DVD using the import from DVD option in Video Studio. This can be any movie. Then I get an MPG film which contains that movie, one audio track, but sometimes even 5 audio tracks (like in The Flight of the Phoenix 1965). It also contains often a subtitle track. Which you can switch off in Preferences.
If I put that .MPG file in the time line, the audio is about 13 frames later then the video.
It doesn't matter which movie I put in the time line. All movies are not synchronous. The same happens when I run VS 2021 or 2022 on my desktop or on my laptop. All audio is not synchronous.
I hoped the problem would have been recognised by Corel. But that is not the case. In VS 2022 the problem still occurs.
Is I install VS2022 on a PC from somebody else, it is exactly the same. Am I the only person who is using VS to edit Subtitles for movies on VideoStudio?
At present I am using VS17 (X7) and also Cyberlink Powerdirector
So who can solve this problem?
Regards
Casey

I don't believe I've ever imported from a DVD format into VS. I'm sure you have reasons, and it may well be the container not being read/parsed correctly by VS. Before I go and even try import, is this with all region's DVD's or just certain ones?

/edit
Works fine in VS 2021 - I'm not using anything else on my PC but I doo have the shark codec packs installed https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/detail ... odecs.html
I just grabbed a random DVD. It took a good while to import the whole disk, and no issues with sync at all. It's a UK made DVD not stamped or mass-produced, and clearly shows a bronze bell being struck, so I would easily know if it's out of sync :-) . I'm no expert at formats, but it's the first time I've done this, can you maybe rip the streams using VLC instead?

Good morning, thanks all for the reply.
This problem occurs to all MPG file from DVD in NTSC format and PAL format. I use mpg files which are either imported in previous VideoStudio versions like 2012, 2015 or 2017. They pictures and audio is synchronous in all these versions, but using the same files in the 2020, 2021 or 2022 versions, the audio is about 13 frames off.
If I use a project from a previous version like X7, in 2022, I see in the wave form where the audio starts, but I hear it 13-15 frames later.
A subtitle starts at the moment that in the wave visible is, that the sound starts, but the sound comes later, and so it is impossible to make, edit and adjust subtitles as they are not synchronous with the audio.
Thanks from your new attention.

Hello Trevor and Mr Zaphodikus,
I have installed all codecs from the Shark website as mentioned above. This does not improve the situation.
I used old projects and files made in VS X7. Still no improvement.
I also try to capture / imported completely new MPG files from a random selected DVD on my hard drive. And made a ne project with it. The result is still the same. The audio is still off.

Maybe this is caused by the fact that I am using a trial version of VS2022. But why should I buy a code key if I am not sure if the program is working properly?

So, again thanks for your help.

Hi Casey
Tletter replied to your first post “ Is the audio on music tracks or embedded in the video track?”

I do not think Video Studio supports multiple audio streams, better handling video with audio included. You do seem to indicate having multiple audio, sometimes?

Can you check the content of the disc.
Open or explore the disc should show 2 folders Audio_TS and Video_TS
The audio folder is normally empty. Is that so.
The Video_TS folder containing the video + additional files.

Ok
To import a DVD to video studio I right click the timeline for Insert Digital Media
Then browse for the disc to choose the Video _TS folder
The process should then show thumbnails of the titles and chapters allowing you to choose which to import
So how are you importing your DVD Disc.
You say “ I import a movie from a DVD using the import from DVD option in Video Studio”
I do not know where that is, is that part of VS X7?

Some info on importing DVD files
http://lata.me.uk/corel/importdvd/dvd.htm

If you think VS X7 imports the video correctly then use that program, Although I do not think much has changed regarding DVD from X7 to 2022

Good morning Trevor,
Thanks for your reply and input.

Importing from DVD is quite easy.
In the VS interface, you see left from the edit tab the Capture tab. Click this. In the middle of the menu you see: import from digital media>then select the folder on your HD where you stored the DVD. Preferably the VIDEO_TS folder. But it is sufficient to select the folder. >START>VS gives you stills of all titles and chapters in that DVD folder.>Move the cursor over the stills to find the largest file in GB. This is the main film (or movie if you are an American)>Select it and click START. VS produces a MPG file from that film. This includes the main audio track and if it has subtitles, the first subtitle. The others are ignored or not selectable in VS. You can switch off the Subtitle in the Edit tab of the Preferences menu. Select or deselect: Show subtitles from DVD.
Any way. The produced MPG file is loaded into the time line. If you look for a piece in the film where you can watch the mimic of the actors, you see that the audio is not synch with the video in all version of VS 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The problem with the audio not synch is similar to if you watch an analogue TV broadcast and a digital broadcast at the same time of the same broadcast. The digital one is a little later then the analogue. The delay is caused by decoding.
Long time ago I had an audio wave editor in which one had to go into the settings and select the audio card. If the audio card was not selected properly, if was impossible to edit the audio wave. But in VS it is impossible to select the proper audio card or audio handler.

And you are right: There are hardly any changes regarding importing and editing DVD’s from X7 to 2022.
But I always hope VS improves the handling of the various DVD files. It has frequently many problems if DVD file is okay but slightly not according to DVD standards or so. Because every now and then it cannot open a file which is easy to open with other software.

So, it looks like I will not buy a key for VS 2022 and hope it is solved next year, but I have my doubts about it.

Again, thanks for you input and kind regards from a very cold Holland,
Casey

When importing from the Video_TS folder the program does not recode the video, the vob files are in fact Mpeg2 files, each vob being 1 Gb ish
At best multiplexing may combine the vobs back to a simgle MPG file.
The disc holds 4.3 Gb so there will be 5 vobs to fill the disc.

As you have already copied the files from disc to the pc you can rename the vobs to use the extension .MPG

Those files should import to Video Studio, works for most vobs although some just will not import.

I should try that at least you will know that nothing has changed from the disc files to pc.
If there is still audio issues then its part of the disc content and not VS.

As for VS 2022, Video Studio X7 was giving a very good rate for VS 2022 Ultimate at £21.99

I have to say that there are issues with the latest service pack SP2, I am sure Corel will fix that sometime.
We are advising not to install that pack

and here in the UK has been very wet, Scotland having floods, unusually lots of rain

Hello Trevor, thanks for your input. The problem is not in the DVD disc. Because it occurs in all MPG files and I can demux the VOB files into video and audio files, add subtitles, change the audio order and subtitle order and remux all back into VOB files with DVD-Lab-pro and all sound is synch. But do I edit these files in VS 2020, 2021 of 2022 then they are not synch. So, it must be in VS.
Well, It looks like we will not solve this, so thanks for all your input and hope for the best next issue of VS.
Regards from a rainy Holland,
Casey
