PSP 2020 Ult. white balance glitch on desktop

Post by MarkyW »

I've used PSP for many, many years. Right now I have PSP 2020 Ultimate. I have been using it on a Dell Inspiron 7548 Intel i5 laptop with 16gb of ram. Everything has been working fine. I also use Topaz plug-ins, and some of the latest AI plug-ins, especially Gigapixel AI works quite slow on the laptop. So I recently got a new Dell desktop as shown on the info panel on the right of my message and everything works much faster.

After I installed my PSP 2020 Ultimate on my desktop, everything seemed to work fine, but then I noticed one problem. If I click on "Adjust" and then "White Balance" the dialog box that comes up has a problem.

First, here's what the dialog box looks like on my laptop, which works correctly. You see the 2 thumbnails of before and after and at the top right there is a checkbox to "Preview on Image" which I can uncheck.

Now here's what the dialog box looks like on my desktop. The 2 thumbnails (and some other stuff) aren't there and the checkbox on the top right to "Preview on Image" can NOT be unchecked, which means I can't see the difference in a before and after.

I'm guessing I probably will have to remove the program and then reinstall it and hope that fixes it. I just thought I would check here if there might be some other thing going on.
Thanks for any advice.

Have you tried doing a reset? Close PSP. Hold down the Shift key and click on the desktop PSP icon to open it. You should be asked if you want to reset.

Make sure you first save any customized workspace. Otherwise it will be lost in the reset.

Looks like you just need to click on the carat (arrow) on the left of the screen to open up the side by side preview. If that doesn't work then try the reset Ken suggested.

Check your display settings, is scaling turned on? Sometimes that makes the appearance of the text and items all screwy.

It's fixed. Thank you, thank you.

I tried all the suggestions that you gave me. I did have my display scale set to 125%, so I put it back to 100%, but no difference.
I tried clicking on that "carat", but that didn't do anything.

So then I tried the reset action. I didn't even know that was a thing. After it started I had to figure out again how to get from the basic edit screen to the full edit screen that I use.
Then I opened a photo and clicked Adjust then White Balance... and it worked correctly. I have the 2 little thumbnails and I can check and uncheck the Preview on Image box so that I can see the change on the full image.

Thank you to Ken Berry for the answer that worked and thank you to the others for their suggestions as well.
