Vector Object Confusion

Post by Digging4Roots »

Grabbed a raster image and added a vector layer. I then used various vector tools to create vector objects on the layer. However, I am unable to copy (ctrl-c) and paste as vector (ctrl-g). They are all being treated as raster objects.

Example, for the pen, I selected:
  • Draw Point-to-Point bezier curves
  • Connect segments
  • Create on vector
  • Show nodes
  • Tracking 10 (default)
  • Line Style (solid line)
  • Width 2
  • Anti Alias
  • Join: (default)
  • Miter limit: 15 (default)
(Attached zip file contains the problematic PSPImage file)
Vector Selections.jpg
After creating the object, I then select copy. But when I go to paste it as a new vector object, ctrl-G is grayed out. This happens periodically and it's driving me nuts. I can't figure out what I'm doing when one image file it works and another it does not. As near as I can tell, I am doing everything the same each time.

Can someone point me in a direction which may assist me to figure out what I may be doing wrong?

Thank you.

Forgot to mention: I am using PSP Pro 2019 Ultimate. (I have elected not to update. Please don't suggest that as a solution.)

I'll let others answer your main question. But to post attachments here, first make sure you are using the "Full Editor and Preview" which appears as a button below the area where you write you question.

Then you should see a couple of tabs, one of which is Attachments. Click on the 'Add files' button there, and browse to where you have the image you want to attach. Select it and then you should see buttons for Place Inline and Delete. If you don't select either, when you press Submit, the image should appear below your question. If you select Place Inline, it will normally appear at the start of your question like this: . You can then copy all of that and paste it wherever in your question you want the image to appear.

Thank you. I just now tried to add the PSPImage file and I was told it was an invalid file format. Can I not attach the specific file I'm having issues with? Or is it only jpg/png/etc files that can be shared?

There are certain file formats that are not allowed as attachments
Try zipping the PSPImage file, I would think that will be allowed as an attachment

Thank you, Trevor. That worked quite well and this old dog learned a few new tricks.

You had an active selection on the image. When there is an active selection it copies whatever is in the current layer as a raster version of the image. If you remove the selection (Selections -> Select None or Ctrl + D) that selection goes away, and you can copy vector layers and paste as a vector selection or as a new layer without converting to a raster.

I observe the same behavior.
I don't know if it is a bug or by design.
What I do is Duplicate the layer. The duplicated layer keeps everything in vector.

Thank you, Jean-Luc, but that hasn't worked for me. If you happen to check out the file I attached, you will find I duplicated the layer twice with the same results.

I don't see duplicated layers in your file.
When a layer is duplicated (right-click/Duplicate), its name change to "Copy of...". There is no "Copy of.." layers in your image. Did you change the name?

Just want to repeat in case it was missed, the issue in the uploaded image is that there is an active raster selection on the image. Just hit CTRL + D for Select None and you should be able to copy and paste the vectors again.

Well done! I hadn't noticed that.

Jean-Luc: yes, the layers were renamed. I created the first vector image and then wanted to copy it to make changes in order to have a variation rather than begin from scratch.
LeviFiction: yes, Ctrl-D worked. Thank you.
