24.1.0.299 jammed on options/edit

Post by Davidk »

Opened CVS 2021 today, to continue editing a project, and found that it opened on options/edit, and was jammed there. Screenshot
24.1.0.299 jammed on options_edit.jpg
Opening a vsp works, as does opening a new project. Playing the vsp works OK, both clip and project, and TL operations seems to be normal. But I simply cannot get it un-jammed from options/edit. It will not display the other screens of that options mode (effect, colour, lens correction), nor will it return to normal or the other option. labels on these icons are missing.

Anyone experienced this? how to get back to normal?

I certainly can't remember hearing this one before with any version of VS. It might be an extremely long shot, but I wonder if creating a new sub-folder 24 in AppData > Roaming > Ulead might effect a reset. Other than that, I could only suggest the usual reinstall.

Hi Ken,
Tried that, the library panel slowly re-built over several seconds, but still opened on the options panel and there was no change in the result, but a real difference in the size of the re-built 24 folder - screenshot

Not really looking forward to a re-install or repair, it would be nice if the there was a default reset for everything option - re-configuring takes a lot less time and effort than a re-install.
I'll bug this citing this thread.

Update: bug 0798

First option - repair.
1. deleted the huge, re-built 24.0 folder and renamed the old one back to 24.0 Opened VS again, no change to the jammed condition. After the re-open, there was no change also to the sizes of the 24.0 folder - still 75.8 Mb, 249 files, 59 folders as original/old.
2. located the original download folder, opened the installer, was presented with the version/NTSC/license key screen - changed to PAL, next
3. selected repair from the options, clicked on repair . . it looked to take a while, the repair message with slowly running dots showing so did a chore away from the PC (5 mins). Came back - screen at the windows log-in page: no indication of repair results, obviously completed and closed session. Is that normal???
4. started VS - start OK, but still opening to the jammed on options page: repair ineffective.

Sigh. re-install . . .

Hi David
Like Ken I have not seen this before
I have however replicated the jam in options / edit.

I noticed you have used a Custom Layout so I created similar saving as Custom 1.
Switched to options Edit and closed VS
I then reset the program by renaming the 24.0 folder
Starting VS still opened in Custom 1 and showing in options – Edit, Jammed?

Hitting F7 reset the workspace, I then changed workspace to Custom 1 and all worked ok.

At least that is what I remember doing as I cannot replicate this jam again, so far that is.

So if it happens again try hitting F7

Ok
I was unable to replicate as my library was as default.
I reset my library to its full complement.
Then doing a reset caused the issue again, F7 got me out of Goal.

Strange now when I tried running VS it hung on the splash screen, a second start worked ok.
Discussing that one on Centercode.
So can I replicate the jam again, no because VS now refuses to run at all. No Splash Screen the program is hanging in Task Manager

Ok managed to clear Task Manager and the program ran
Set Custom1
Closed program
Renamed 24.0
Start program to Jammed Options / Edit
Switched view to Share reset the problem
F7 also helps

Hi Trevor,
Well, sometimes I just rest head on desk and mutter " why is it always me?"
Often when something unusual happens, switching modes or projects, even a re-start, can fix it. In this case, nothing I did fixed the issue - restart VS, swap main modes eg to home, change vsp to new project, a cold boot even, doing the new 24.0 folder as Ken suggested. Not sure if I tried Share . . , and did not know about F7. Technically, what is that function key supposed to do?
In any event, it seems replicable with a custom layout, which seems to be a basic ingredient . . and whatever it is seems to be a program corruption that F7 fixes sometimes: probably a data value that's out expected range. A re-install fixes it too, but that takes a fair while to do. Nice to know F7 will work.

Update
the user guide says F7 is the layout "switch to default". Pretty sure I checked layout, but it was inert. F7 looks like a way to bypass that.

Robert,
There's a lot of local noise about fortress qld too. It has worked, but the business angst is rising. Just saw a post about local insolvencies - 59 in the last month and rising: see https://www.couriermail.com.au/subscrib ... de=premium
The backlash against pollie double standards is fierce too - recent commentary: if palachook is willing to blame the health officer maybe the health officer should be the premier . . .

David I am sure you have queried the use of F7 in the past, view attached image
You can also try Ctrl + 1
which should refresh the custom layout, ( I assume you have saved to Custom 1)
I must admit did not try that option.

Trevor,
It has looked me in the face for so long and I've never recognised it. So much for my "it would be nice" remark earlier (mea culpa mud on face). Usually, when it happens on that function I've focussed on the switch to custom #1 setting . . and that leads me to another point.
I bugged 2021 and complained for some time now about how the custom setting for layout randomly resets to the default between one session and the next: switching back to custom 1 fixed that; but since this jammed on options/edit issue seems to be solvable (most of the time - your results?) by pressing F7, which in itself makes the problem associated somehow with layout, the jamming situation may be a more extreme manifestation of that reset issue.

I also noticed that the selection from the options panel is also saved to the Custom saving options
So if you have the middle option selected and do a save Custom 1.2 or 3 then that options selection is also saved

I have been having the occasional fail to launch the program, works second time, just makes me wonder if that is associated with the program layout.
