Subtitles creation..alternative..
Hello there my fellow frustrated Corel videostudio users.
Using the wonderful, never crashes, sound clips always perfectly placed, VS 2020 ( Really i must get around to complaining about this bit of software - you pays your money and WASTE your time using a corrupt bit of kit - a knowingly corrupt piece of software - really they should be giving me the latest version gratis..have to see about that..is it even legal...i mean..back in the day i bought Jetpack Spectrum game, and wasted months! completing it only to find that the very end had a known bug stopping you from completing...really i should of looked a legal proceedings back then re that software company...i spent money on the game, my time, and helpdesk phone calls from a grubby UK telephone box complete with the prancing **** on its side ( a UK joke ) as it was known back then.
STILL - I digress.
ACTUAL QUESTION STARTS BELOW..
Making ( trying ) ( so very very trying ) to make a video or three - Now fellow friends, i want to have on/off subtitles. SO, ive looked at the Help etc and ..well...it looks a little confusing truth to told. Adding them manually an option...bit lengthy...but an option....BUT...if i did add them manually..then i cannot turn them on or off -can i. SO, other than create 2 versions of a video, and give the lucky viewers the option of clicking on the homemade subtitle one...is there an alternative..if so..prey please tell all.#
thanking you kindly in advance. I expect a few hundred replies to this as per the norm.

If you upload your video to YT, then viewers have the option to turn on/off subtitles which are auto-generated.garjobo123 wrote: H i want to have on/off subtitles.

The feature of titles on/off is of the player not the NLE.
You can zip the srt file with your video file and your client will decide.

Re: Subtitles creation..alternative..
Hi
First have you created your sub-titles or do you still have to do that?
I do not know much about subtitles but thought a separate file (srt) is required to play along with the video.
Where the titles are applied / embedded to the video, having the ability to switch on / off is not available. That is my understanding.
A google search seems to confirm this, I found this site explaining sub titles.
Of course video studio can create the sub-title file (srt). Wether I can play that along with the video using my media players is another matter, maybe VLC can do that, I just do not know, although I doubt it.
So i guess I am saying Video Studio can create sub-titles, just that i do not have a media player that does, unless I use a share site like You Tube.
The program I found using google seems to work in a similar manner as video studio.

5. Encode Your Subtitles (Optional)
Once you’ve saved or exported your subtitles, they’re ready to be loaded in a media player. Many media players allow you to open a video file and select a separate subtitle file to be played with it.
This is convenient, as it means you can add subtitles without encoding. And that saves you time.
If you want to permanently add subtitles to your MP4 (often called “hard subbing”), though, you’ll need to encode them into the video. Note that if you hard sub your subtitles, there will never be an option to turn them off. They’ll be permanently displayed in that video file.
We like VLC for this, as it’s another free app that’s packed with useful features.
To hard code your subtitles into an MP4 file, open VLC and open the video with Media > Open File.

I don't know what program you are referring to with "ulead".garjobo123 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 4:48 pm No - no thats not the reply im after at all. I dont want to upload it to youtube.

Anyway, in VideoStudio it is very easy to add subtitles to a video. THe Help section has good and easy to follow instruction on how to create a subtitle (srt) file. Once saved you can fine tune it with a text editir such as Wordpad or Notepad.
There is a certain amount of manual work involved, there is no way around that.
As asik1 and lata have posted, a subtitle files is not directly part of the video and thus cannot be turned off or on in the video but only through a video player.
A google search lists several sub-title editors some of them free.

Re: Subtitles creation..alternative..
Just one bit of calm question - but related.
What if you try to record a Bluray movie (or a dvd) - is there a possibility to turn on/off the subtitles as in normal movies?

Re: Subtitles creation..alternative..
As has been repeated several times: the option to turn on/off subtitles is a function of the video player or the playback device not the video program

What is a "calm question"?remmyhi wrote: Just one bit of calm question
Most Blu-ray/DVDs will have subtitles and closed captions but that isn't always the case. There must be subtitle/CC files on the disc which can be enabled/disabled by the viewer in a capable player. Note that open captions can't be turned off by the viewer.remmyhi wrote: What if you try to record a Bluray movie (or a dvd) - is there a possibility to turn on/off the subtitles as in normal movies?
The problem that you're having is understanding how captions and subtitles are generated and stored, and the role of the player vs. the NLE in displaying them. Perhaps you might find the Corel tutorial on subtitles of use (see https://learn.corel.com/tutorials/how-to-add-subtitles/).

Re: Subtitles creation..alternative..
I see lots of negative emotions in this thread so tried to make this one a bit less emotional and a bit more calm. Evidently it did not reach your understanding.
I am not having any problems with understanding, I do understand how subtitles are created in the Bluray movies, but I still dont know is how to pack them and create a bluray disc using Videostuidio, so they can be turned on/off DURING the movie is played.
I did watch the tutorial and still - I see nothing with a disc creation.
Best regards
