New user with question about snap to grid

Post by jmm22 »

New user here. I decided to download the trial version of Videostudio 2021 after reading a review that suggested it was new user friendly. I had struggled briefly with Roxio video editor but abandoned it when it became obvious that the program was not well engineered.

In any event, my first impressions of Videostudio are good, but I've stumbled on my first question. When moving a clip of video or audio, it seems to move in rather coarse increments rather than very smoothly like one would expect. I do have some familiarity with audio editing software, and they have a snap to grip function, and my impression is this program has something similar, and that it's currently engaged. It would be impossible to perfectly synchronize music and video the way it's working at present. Can someone please advise on where I would find such a setting?

Also, let's say I wanted to move a particular video clip and the audio track simultaneously. I haven't found a way to select the two tracks and move them together. How would I do this?

I've been searching for a button of function that allows me to fine adjust tracks, especially audio. I can see the video track(s) being adjustable only in increments due to the video being in increments of frames, but I remain baffled at to why I cannot fine adjust the audio track.

I'm afraid the audio editing side of VS has never been one of its strong points. For general audio editing, many of us here use third party audio editing programs like the freeware Audacity.

I assume, when you talk of fine adjustments of the audio track, that you want to ensure that it is as close as possible to a particular spot in the video track. You can of course adjust the video track so that it shows frame by individual frame. That will at least allow you to align an audio track as close as possible to the point you want. See attached image of where you adjust the video timeline to see each and every frame. The red arrow points to where the marker above the timeline has to be moved to...

1 / We can select multiple clips by using Shift + Click then drag the selection along the timelines, of course other clips may obstruct this move.
2 / There is a sound mixer view ( icon on the tool bar) that allows us to show the wave form, can be useful when syncing audio.
3 / We can modify the vertical height of the track again can be useful when viewing the wave form
( drag the bottom of the timeline down.)
4 / Top left is a small green arrow, this is the chapter point marker, position the cursor then click the arrow, or simply click the small line at the top to add a point. Dragging a single clip from right to left will snap to that point, right click the small bar to remove points.
