We don't know Corel's plans here. We also get surprised by Corel's decisions. Right now they seem to be on an AI and beginner coddling kick. Can you define "full PSD support"? Do you mean become a Photoshop clone like Photopea? Or that it has the ability to fully recreate a rendered copy of the final PSD by creating a flattened version? Technically PSP does flatten certain types of layers increasing compatibility as much as it can while losing the flexibility of being able to edit these values. Such as smart objects.
PSP can already read all of the settings in the PSD file, it just can't make use of all of them. Like certain Adjustment Layers (i.e. Gradient, Pattern, Solid Color, Gradient Map, etc.) as PSP doesn't have an equivalent for these. Or Layer Effects, PSP made their layer Effects more closely match its own version of these effects. In order to support PS's version of these stored in the PSD file it would have to create brand new effects replacing the old.
So what specifically would you like to see PSP improve in its PSD support?

If needed only sometimes the way is install virtual machine as VirtualBox and Windows 10 without license key. Then Photoshop CC 2021 and you get about 3 to 7 days full trial.
