VideoStudio 2021 Ultimate - No More Drag & Drop?
Hi All,
Long time! Apologies if this has been posted before, but didn't find anything in the search.
Just upgraded to VS2021 Ultimate, and I simply cannot click and drag a video or photo (or any file type, actually) from a Windows Explorer window directly into the VS timeline.
Seems like the most basic of actions, and every other previous version I was able to.
Now when I try, I just get the "buster" (circle with diagonal line through it) icon in the timeline and can't drop it, obviously.
Windows 10 OS.
Online install from Corel- no disc.
Any help/advice is so greatly appreciated, as always!

I am not on the pc to check so just thinking out loud...
We can choose to import / insert a video or image to the library or timelines.
Here we first select Insert Media Files then browse to locate the files, select the files and choose open.
From this window we cannot drag and drop, we have to use the open option.
From video studio, with nothing selected.
Open windows explorer, locate your image / video file, try drag and drop, should work.
Just that we cannot mix the import / insert option with drag and drop. One or the other.

Thanks- I am immediately going to file explorer after opening the program- not attempting import / insert a video or image to the library or timelines.lata wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 5:17 pm I am not on the pc to check so just thinking out loud...

Also to add, I am running as Admin as well.

Re: VideoStudio 2021 Ultimate - No More Drag & Drop?
Not sure if we are talking about the same thing. But I have VS 2021 open on screen. I open File Explorer and go to Videos or Pictures. I select an image, left click and try to drag it to the VS timeline. As you say, I get the "buster" (circle with line) which usually indicates it is not going to work. But when the mouse is over the timeline, when I release the left button the image appears in the timeline. And after that first image is inserted, when I try another one, I don't even get the buster any more -- the image is just inserted when I drag and drop it. As I say, this works for me with both pictures and video. Mind you, normally I don't do this. Rather, with VS open, I right click in the timeline and select Insert Video or Insert Photo then browse to the relevant folder in File Explorer and select.

Hey Ken,
Thank you- That is exactly what I am trying to do. I just tried it again, and the buster sign disappears but the photo does not populate in the timeline.
I'll see if there's a way to take a quick video capture of it in both versions to show you. Again, I can still open 2020 Ultimate and it works there. It's only in 2021 that the feature doesn't work for me, currently.

Re: VideoStudio 2021 Ultimate - No More Drag & Drop?
I normally do as Ken - use the rt-click, open video/photo etc method. but tried the drag n drop approach with CVS 24.1.0.299 to check:
- opened VS, 3/4 size UI, dragged to one side so I could open explorer and get the two programs on the same screen
- opened explorer, 3/4 size, positioned beside the UI of VS
- select the explorer UI, opened a video folder and chose an mp4 file at random
- left click on the video file, hold, drag to the TL of VS
- video appears in the TL immediately, none of this buster icon stuff, it just worked.

Re: VideoStudio 2021 Ultimate - No More Drag & Drop?
I perhaps should have added that I did as David did in resizing both VS and File Explorer so that both were on the screen at once. I assume that you have done the same, hrpufnstuf65. The only difference being that I got the buster for a short while with the first image transfer.

Re: VideoStudio 2021 Ultimate - No More Drag & Drop?
Hey guys,
Actually I have a dual monitor setup, with the main screen being a Lenovo 21" all-in-one (where the file explorer is opened), and a 27" BenQ monitor, connected via HDMI to the right.
I tried your suggestion of resizing both the UI and the windows explorer window being on the same screen, still no go.
To reiterate, it works in VS 2020, so I am guessing somewhere in 2021, there may be a setting I am missing?
I mean, I could use the "add mexia" method, but I am so used to clicking and dragging single or multiple files into VS, it's just frustrating the hell out of me.
And again, it was an online d/l and install, I have the latest updates, and I even re-installed once.
I do appreciate all your help, as always.

I have no problems drag-dropping files from Windows Explorer directly to the Timeline. Win10, VS2021.

gewb,
Good to know it's just me, but makes it that much more frustrating.

Re: VideoStudio 2021 Ultimate - No More Drag & Drop?
Well, I uninstalled/ reinstalled but still no-go. A wit's end.
Moving on, I have a question: using VS in the "traditional" way- if I import a folder of photos, videos and audio for a project, is that essentially "mapping" to the various files on the drive they are housed in?
I mean is it essentially just creating a tunnel, for lack of a better description, as opposed to actually being physically uploaded to the VS app?
Whatever the answer, can I then just delete the project folder from the VS Workspace without it affecting the actual files on the drive I pull them from?
Just want to make sure.
Thanks again for all your help and guidance.

Re: VideoStudio 2021 Ultimate - No More Drag & Drop?
Mapping a tunnel we see it as being Linked
When inserting files to Video Studio timeline or library the clip we see is a thumbnail / clip for want of a better description, it is linked to the file on our hard drive.
If we remove / delete clips from the library or timeline that does NOT delete files from the hard drive.
If we hold Shift then Delete the library clip we will be prompted to also delete the hard drive file, that is our choice.
Otherwise the program is non-destructive
If we move or delete files on our hard drive, the program will give an error in the form of a Re-link, now we have the option to Re-link or remove / delete the clip from VS
Yes you can simply delete the folder from the library without affecting the original files on the hard drive.

I have the same issue with 2021 only. If I open VS 2018, 2019, or 2020 Drag and Drop works fine. Total fail with VS Ultimate 2021.
