First Project Breaks During Multiplexing

Post by Iceblade »

Fellow Video Editors,

I have run into an problem in attempting to burn/create ISO for my first BD-R with VS Ultimate 2021.

When the burning process gets to the Video/Audio Multiplexing, the process stops at 2% progress for the multiplexing. It did this first when I attempted a burn to disc, so I restarted the application and burned to an ISO instead. Same non-responsive point at 2% with the elapse clock stopping.

Can you simply render your VSP as a video? Check if this rendering also stops at 2%.

Iceblade,

you post that you are creating a BD-R disc. But your project settings show that you are creating a mpg video. Why are you converting to mpg video if you want a BD video?

@tletter: I'm not sure what you mean by render just the VSP?

@canuck: Isn't MP4 what is used for BD-Rs?

Why are you converting to mpg (for DVDs) video if you want to create BDs?
FYI: with rise of streaming etc, BD are dying. Samsungm the market leader in BD has quit making them

Then what is the format that BD uses? I thought it was MP4-H.264?

Also, we want to watch home movies on the TV and the only way we can do that is with a disc. HDDs/SSDs with enough capacity do not work, and connecting a laptop is an absolute pain to use in our family room.

Yes, BDs use the mp4 format. I am asking why you are converting to the "low" quality DVD mpg format if you want to createa BD.

Most modern TVs accept USb sticks and play mp4s as well as most HD formats without problems. No need to mess around with converting and burning to DVDs or BDs.
I have no problem playing videos from a HDD connected directly to my 3 year old TV.
If you have created a "home movie" with menu then you will have problems playing them using a USB or HDD

Where does it say I am using mpg2 format. All of the settings above show H.264.

Also my PS4 cannot can interact with the Portable Drive. Calls it unsupported.

Edit: SERIOUSLY!! A mid-tier TV from 5 years ago is able to read it fine, but a PS4 gaming console won't. WTH!!!

Well I guess those BD-R could be used for data discs.

It was able to "render" to a mp4 file using the computer-share option. Unfortunately, the file's variable bitrate makes it hard to play in VLC; meaning having to re-encode with handbrake just to enforce a constant frame rate.

Frustratingly, the output file is also devoid of any bookmarks or chapters - giving me a gigantic 8 hour video file.

Is there anyway to output a Smart-TV-compatible file from a VS project that includes bookmarks or chapters of some kind?

The PS4 appears to be the same as the PS3 in this regard. I have two PS3, and they can only recognize USB stick drives and external hard drives formatted to FAT 32 or exFAT. If your videos are larger than 4GB (which is the FAT 32 limit on file size), then go with exFAT which is not so limited.

Okay, well I got Drax to allow me to edit in chapters in the mp4; though the TV doesn't recognize chapters within an MP4 file.

So frustrating!
