NTFS to FAT32 / Program Backup - C to USB D Drive -
I was trying to save my exe files to a USB disc for a backup for Video Ultimate 21 to a USB and I keep getting this prompt that the file has properties it can't copy to that location.
My guess is that the reason for the prompt is because I'm writing
NTFS to FAT32
When I had this problem in Ultimate 20 , Corel had me transfer the actual installation folders to the USB and it worked. I could then transfer the exe or application files just fine.
I ran repair in Apps and Windows just to see and tried creating a folder to transfer into. No Luck. I kept getting the same prompt.
I went ahead and transferred the files to the USB anyway. Will they serve as a backup anyway or is there some other work around. I guess their integrity could of been compromised.

Is there a particular reason why you didn't reformat the FAT32 drive to NTFS or even exFAT? Then there would not have been any worry about the FAT32 4GB maximum file size... Mind you I am pretty sure none of the VS files would be over that size anyway, so you may be OK.

What do you mean by USB disc or do you mean a USB stick? What exactly are your trying to backup or copy? Just backing up the exe files without the rest of the VS 2021 package is not usefull.Rguy11 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 9:25 pm I was trying to save my exe files to a USB disc for a backup for Video Ultimate 21 to a USB and I keep getting this prompt that the file has properties it can't copy to that location.

Anyway, all of the files in the VS2021 install package are under 4GB and therefore will copy without problems to a USB stick.

I say -
The folders are bigger than the 4GB size if I have to have them on the USB with the executive file
But the exe. files aren't that big.
The VideoStudio2021_Online.exe is only 6.92 MB (7,262,208 bytes)
The VS_templates.exe is only 73.7 MB (77,344,768 bytes)
The Video_ overlays_pack.exe is only 513 MB (538,206,208 bytes)
I don't even know what ex Fat is. I'll have to look it up.

Yeah - It's just a USB stick - I moved the folders to the USB and I'm still getting the prompt for all three exe files. I just want a back up just in case I have to reinstall the program. Their not available on line after several weeks.
That process worked fine on the last version.

Re: NTFS to FAT32 / Program Backup - C to USB D Drive -
The 4GB limit is the max file size for FAT16B and FAT32, not the the max folder size. The max number of files for FAT16 is 65,460 for 32 KB clusters, and for FAT32 is 268,173,300 for 32 KB clusters. Hence it's unlikely that you've exceeded the max number of files.Rguy11 wrote: >I say - The folders are bigger than the 4GB size if I have to have them on the USB with the executive file

What is it you are actually trying to backup? The installer (downloaded) package or the installed program.
There is no point in backing up the "installed" program since you cannot re-install from that package. If a re-install is required, then it has to be done from the "Installer package"

Re: NTFS to FAT32 / Program Backup - C to USB D Drive -
The installed program's downloaders or exe. or application files and program files of course. I should of bought it from Amazon so I would have had the download on storage but I got the program for 35 dollars at Corel. Right- You have to save the installer package or those folders to the USB and the exe files. I'm just trying to have a way to back up or to be able to redownload the program.
I'm just trying to find a way to move the exe files to storage at this point. Converting to exFAT may be the answer. I need to check that out and I also contacted the USB manufacture for any input they may have.

Re: NTFS to FAT32 / Program Backup - C to USB D Drive -
No, you just have to save the installer package, nothing else. The installer package will then download everything else and install it.Rguy11 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 7:56 pmThe installed program's downloaders or exe. or application files and program files of course... I have just looked at my saved VS 2021 package and it is 5.69 GB. Within that, there are NO files larger than 4 GB. There is one FOLDER which overall is 4.02 GB but that contains sub-folders and tons of files, none of which are larger than 4 GB. And as tletter has already said above, with FAT32 it is FILES, and not folders, which have to be below 4 GB. So you should have no trouble at all saving your installer package.
If you are saving -- or also saving -- what is already installed in Program Files, there is no point. You can't just copy them to your new PC (or reformatted old one) and expect them to work. They also require a great number of associated entries in the Registry.
So again, it is just the installer package you need.

Re: NTFS to FAT32 / Program Backup - C to USB D Drive -
I thought they had me save them for association because the exe files wouldn't save to the USB with out them and not for replacement. When I redownloaded the program I'd just execute the exe files and it would generate the program files. I wouldn't transfer them back to the C Drive. Generally all you have to do is save the application or exe files of a program to reinstall.
So When you say installer package - Do you mean the actual exe file or the folder with the general set up for the program that contains Bonus Features , Common , Standard Content and Ultimate. ( On Desktop ) That seems to be the same order in which the installer installed them but you would have to execute them individually to get them to install with out the installer which installs all of the content. . I have that on the USB now.
Sorry = I guess a lot of people just have to re purchase the program if it crashes. I'm always a little confused about that process with this program. I guess I could save the exe files to my email account since I always execute them from downloads anyway -
Thanks for all your answers and time in helping me with this.

Re: NTFS to FAT32 / Program Backup - C to USB D Drive -
You can download the program again, at any time using the VideoStudio2021_Online.exe is only 6.92 MB file, provided you have a serial number for the program.
Think of the VideoStudio2021_Online.exe file as a download / installation manager.
To download the program installation files again we first have to uninstall the program.
If you do not have the file it can be downloaded from the Corel Support Patches and Updates. Read the “Troubleshooting” section to download the file.
Of course it may be advisable to save the installation files, although not really necessary however when we choose to reinstall VS those files may need updating from the Corel server, this would be done prior to installation. Downloading the files now will probably include the latest service packs.
If you do wish to save the installation files to usb, I would format the USB to NTFS.
I am not on my pc to check the installation files .exe sizes.
The free content – templates and overlays will not be included in the program installation files, so save those to a safe location.
