I am having teouble with this post. I had to go into full editor mode and now I don't see all of the posts in both modes. Anyway, I posted a screen shot of the files on the problem disc. It might be relevant that the disc plays perfectly well on my computer with VLC. It is only when I try to upload it into Videostudio that it tells me there is no valid content.

I did try copying it to the hard drive, but still could load it into videostudio. I also tried to convert it with Handbrake but it converted into mv4 (I might have remembered the extention wrongly) Anyway, this woulddn't load into Videostudio either.

The Vob files named
VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_4.VOB are the main video files
3 off are 1 Gb whilst the last is 296 Mb
You should be able to rename those files to use MPG as their extension, example
VTS_01_1.mpg, this should be the start of the movie.
I do not know what the other Vobs are for unless there is a complex menu structure.
But rename those as well to see what you have

A IFO file is part of the DVD specification. IFO stands for information.
It contains information about the video files, the menus, subtitles, and any special features the DVD may have.

The files with an IFO file extension
VIDEO_TS.IFO provides the DVD player with information about the contents of the DVD disc.
VIDEO_TS.BUP is a backup of the IFO file
VIDEO_TS.VOB is a video file of an intro video or a menu for the complete DVD

Your DVD contains 4 title sets, each title set is identified by the prefix: VTS_0n, where n goes from 0 to 4 (for your DVD)

The main movie is made up of title set VTS_01
VTS_01_0.IFO THis file provides the DVD player with information about the contents of the title set the names of the video files, the menus, subtitles.
VTS_01_0.BUP is a backup of the IFO file
VTS_01_0.VOB this video file usually conatins the menu video for this title set
VTS_01_1.VOB these 4 VOB files contain the actual movie and would be played in sequence
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB

THe title sets with prefix VTS_0n (n from 2 to 4) are other videos that may extra features such as trailers, copyright notices etc.

You should be able to copy each of the VTS_01_01.VOB to VTS_01.04.VOB to your hard drive
Then change the vob extension to mpg. Can you play each of these with VLS or other media player?
If yes then add each mpg file to the timeline in sequence.

Does this work?

I ripped the file successfully with VLC and now have an MP4 file. I do not want to re-edit this file but note that I cannot import it into Videostudio as a a digital media file.

Thanks everyone for your time and patience. As noted abpve, I converted the video to MPG using VLC. Then as an academic exercise, I followed Trevor's advice and was able to import the files into Videostudio after changing the VOB files to MPG. So I know that this works too. If I need to edit further in Videostudio I wil be able to do so. Thanks again.

Sorry, I've hit anopther stumbling block. When I converted my videos I saved them with and .mpg extension. They all play perfectly on my computer and TV, but uf I send a link to someone to view any of them on One Drive, these videos will not play. What solution do you recommend. I tried converting them on VEED, but it doesn't recognise the mpg extension.

I thought you were sticking with MP4 for all your files allowing others better playability. Using Trevor's renaming technique should have got the files to your VS timeline for easy MP4 export. Or just use VLC and rip all your DVDs to MP4 and forget about editing and focus only on sharing.

I am unsure if we can play the videos directly through One Drive, certainly if you have problems you should download the video files to the pc, then try to play.

I have a Filemail Pro account that I pay for that allows me 250GB transfers. But it's free service allows you to send 5GB files via email or as a link. Depending on file size, this may be an option for you.
