[Sticky] - What Do You Like/Not Like About PSP2022?

This topic is for you to constructively state what you like or not like about PSP2022. Feature suggestions should be added to the Wishlist Sticky.

Where is the user manual? That is what I hate. I did submit a ticket to Corel tech support asking where it is. As for what I like, I am not sure yet. I have not played with that much. This will be my last version until there is some HUGE difference in a newer version.

The User manual (or guide) is under Help > User Guide. It is a long PDF (594 pages) which you can either read on screen or download and open whenever you want. Or are you after something else? Anyway, that's always where the guide has been...

At the time of posting PSP 2022 was not publicly available. We buy it through a previous version and are Corel's guinea pigs. Then in a few days/weeks it becomes widely available.
The Helpfile as pdf is now available.

What I like

* You can now switch between workspaces without having to load your own workspace file each time you load the Complete space. It goes a lot faster as well.
* The "Embed image" function. Pity it doesn't work with other basis shapes.
* Overall PSP 2022 seems to be a bit faster then it's predecessors, especially PSP 2020.

What I don't like
* that again the "free" apps don't work or not work correctly and that support is still bad. UPDATE: problem with the apps is solved by Corel. I wasn't the only one.
* they haven't solved the bug that the text tool defaults as a selection instead of a vector layer. The problem started a while ago in PSP 2021 and is the same in 2022.

Otherwise, nothing much seems to have changed, but it seems stable, which is important.

I have not had much time with PSP2022 yet, but i noticed something already... (I compare with PSP2021)

The bad so far:
In the Photography workspace there is no way to fix the horizon, probably one of the most common operation if you fix photos.
The AI portrait selection and background replacer misses quite a lot, often I would find it faster to select with one of the old selection methods, like smart edge. Save much of the correction work...

The good so far:
Switching workspaces are faster and more stable
The new control over instant effects is fun!
Seems like it's pretty stable and well working in general

The straighten tool can do that. You have even a perspective correction tool !

Yes, you have straighten and perspective in the complete workspace, but if you try the simplified Photography workspace (or mode or whatever it's named) I found nothing. May I have missed it somehow?

Why there is no full PSD support?

Image

Even the online free tool like Photopea support complete features of PSD files.

PSP 2022 randomly freezes, no error messages. I use the manage tab to open images, and PSP sometimes just won't go to the manage tag and nothing will work: no menus, no scroll bars, can't close the image. I have to use the task manager to close the program.

Even with autosave checked, it doesn't save a previously unsaved image. It was past the ridiculous 15 minute time limit, but still didn't save.

Can you get rid of the tutorial tiles in Edit mode. I find them quite distracting.

They disappear when an image is placed in the workspace.

I currently use PSP 2021 Ultimate and tried the trial of 2022 specifically for the AI background removal feature. It is shockingly, laughingly poor. I can't really believe that they're using that feature as a selling point. It has to be tried to be disbelieved!

I like the AI background remover not perfect but what is and you can tweak it. Whats wrong with it for you before slamming it. It can't do everything perfect as all images have differnt info put it does allow you to tweak what gets removed and no.

I have to agree with you that it is poor. I guess it will improve over time.
The are a few online AI image enlargers that work better than Corel's too. At least in my tests.

I ran the PSP 2022 trial and purchased it. (I had been using the old PSP 9 and Adobe LightRoom 6).

I like almost everything I'm seeing except:
  • It's a little slow in switching between Manage to Edit.
  • It doesn't use the super-fast JBP browser files of the old PSP (recreates image thumbnails every run).
  • And one main reason I was excited about it was MAP MODE. It appears to be missing.
Thanks!
