Masking keyframe issues.

Post by Jaybee »

Hi All.

I am pretty new to editing and I am really struggling with an issue where I want a simple square mask to move with an onscreen pole so that text comes from behind the pole.

I create the mask, click move and add keyframes as I move the mask in sync with the pole. It takes only around 15 keyframes as the pole is fairly static but it moves to the left at the end of the 15s clip.

All goes well in the mask editor, I can play the clip within that and the masks syncs as expected to the keyframes at the right time. seems good. However....

When I click OK and go into main video editing mode the mask acts completely different and completely desyncs against the pole - it does the correct movements but not where I placed them on the mask timeline. its like the keyframes have a mind of their own after the fact!

I hope this makes sense. Any ideas?

Thanks.

welcome to the forums...

Make sure that your project properties match the video properties ( Alt + Enter) for project and right click video clip - properties for video, should use the same fame size.

If your project is 4k 3840 x 2160, and the video is 1920 x 1080 then when playing on the timelines the mask may lag / go out of sync.

Thank you. And thanks for the reply.

So the little box asking if I want to match video settings when I first insert a clip came up and I said "yes" to this - It is in 4k and in the top right of the screen it does in fact say 3840x2160 - same as if I right click>properties on the clip.

Here's the odd thing. I loaded the same clip straight of my camcorder onto my gaming laptop and tried the same mask technique - it works perfectly!! doing exactly what I did on my desktop... how strange. At least I have what I need I can do the clip on there and bring it across.

Some kind of odd bug maybe.
