Hi, I am using Ulead VS 9. When I burn DVD after 20% of process
completed, Ulead does not do anything, when I checked CPU usage it is
100%. I waited for about 20 minutes but nothing happened and it stayed
at same 20%. What should I do to complete the movie. I am using Win XP
sp2, 512mb of ram and my CPU is 2.0 Ghz, I have lots of free space in
my HD (40gb).
Thanks.
CPU 100% during burning.

Just as a control test, have you tried burning your file in another program, such as Nero? That would indicate whether or not it is likely to be a problem only associated with VS9. Or can you produce an ISO file for later burning?
While I have not had to do so myself, and am a bit chary of doing it anyway, have you applied the burning patch for VS 9 now available on the Ulead website?
Finally, do you have all background processes (screensaver, anti-virus etc) turned off to make sure as much of your computer resources as possible are available? And though it is not usually associated with a 100% CPU message, do you have any packet-writing software program like Nero's InCD installed (which often interferes with any other program's access to the burner -- though usually not allowing you even to get 20% into the burn)?

If you are burning the DVD from the timeline instead of creating DVD-compliant MPEG2 files first, then 100% CPU utilization will be quite normal.
If this is while Videostudio is actually writing to the blank disk, then 100% CPU utilization could be a sign that your hard drive and/or DVD burner are using PIO (Programmed I/O) mode instead of UDMA (Ultra DMA) mode. PIO requires constant attention from the CPU, and will greatly impact all aspects of I/O, not just burning a disk, and it often leads to coasters.

I will download the patches and try once more. The DVD which I am trying to burn is very short like 5 mintues only, I burned it in Pinnacle 9, I burned it in Nero too and there was no problem. I am trying different software to get the best quality of DVDs. I used Encored DVD 1.5 and Adobe Premiere 1.5, so far only Pinnacles has given me good quality of picture on the TV. All my Hardware settings are OK, I kill lots of services and very few background applications are running.
I will post again after installing those patches.
Thanks for the help.

The size of the project may be a problem. I seem to recall that Video Studio, at least in previous versions, had problems burning files which were less than 500 MB, and sought to pad smaller files to get above this limit. But a quick look through the burning module of VS 9 and the various option buttons on it, fails to reveal anything in this regard. Maybe someone else may be able to comment on this point.

I don't remember problems burning short projects, but there is a potential problem playing them. DVDs are supposed to contain at least 1GB of data, and a standalone DVD player that adheres to the spec could potentially fail to recognize or play such a disk.
For this reason, the Ulead burning engine has a "Quick Eject" option, which should be turned OFF for maximum compatibility. If "Quick Eject" is ON, only the data from the DVD project is written to the disk. If "Quick Eject" is OFF and there is less than 1GB of data, the disk will be padded with additional data.
