How to draw an arc

Post by jparnold »

I want to draw a very neat arc shape on an image but don't know how.
I have tried a hollow elipse but only want the top half and also it needs to be on a slight angle.
Note the image below and a freehand (not very neat) 'arc' to demonstrate what I want. It's to indicate the flight path between two places.
Any clues?

The Pen tool, in Point To Point mode, could help with that.

Thanks I tried that but could only draw straight lines. I want a line with a curve in it.

Use the Ellipse Preset Shape.
Draw an ellipse.
Convert the layer to raster.
Erase the unwanted part (see attached)

Thanks for your input.
I just found a Youtube video tutorial (looking for curved line) and found what I think is an easier option -
Ensure backgound color is set to transparent
Select 'Draw Point to Point Bezier curves'
Click on first point
Click on second point and hold mouse button down then drag to create curve in the line
So this is solved.

Select 'Draw Point to Point Bezier curves'
It was migf1 suggestion.
As you seemed to have difficulties, I suggested another method.

Thanks and yes I did try that BUT being ignorant on how to use the tool I clicked on the first point then clicked on the second point and then clicked and dragged instead of click and hold then drag. My only excuse was that it was late, I was tired (and getting too old ).

Sorry, I should have given more details. In case anyone else has the same question, here's a quick video introducing paths: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcFzS2P9p-U&t=929s
(it is part of a longer video talking about curved text, but the above link points directly to the usage of the pen tool).

Thanks again for your interest. I did notice that video but as the title suggests I thought it was only how to create curved TEXT ("PaintShop Pro 2021 • All About Text (Part 3 - Curve Your Text)". I managed to find a video tutorial which only covered how to create a curved line which is all I was looking for which fixed my ignorance.

Hi jparnold, would you share the link of that video? People looking for the same thing could benefit if they come across this thread.

I can't remember exactly which video tutorial it was but it COULD have been https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0LAVenVoxQ&t=188s

BTW migf1 it just wasn't the use of Point To Point mode it was that the background full properties needs to be turned to transparent and if it isn't (I didn't even know that it could be) you end up with a mess (when only wanting to create a curved line). This was pointed out in that video!

This is MOST IMPORTANT!
