Maybe your custom patterns come as 1 zipped file which contains more zipped files instead of regular files. If so, you should unzip the nested zip files too.

Here is a short video showing how to unzip in Win10: https://youtu.be/r9hpiyzOOTY
And here is a long video for the same thing, using a 3rd-party tool called WinZip (though many people prefer using 7zip which is totally free): https://youtu.be/Xer6FeBVWXk

Once you have 1 or more folders containing the custom patterns as plain pic files (not zipped ones) add those folders to PSP's pattern-folders list, via the File -> Preferences -> File Locations [Patterns] dialog, and you should be all set.

thank you, migf1. I will take a look at the videos and might even get 7zip, if I can find it.

I looked at the video and I now have the patterns installed in the materials' palette. I'm not sure what I did and probably will not remember if there is a next time. I hope I will.

Glad you solved it :)

PS. 7zip home is here: https://www.7-zip.org/ but if you're on WIn10 you don't really need 3rd-party tools for unzipping :)
