materials palette
I have downloaded some patterns. Will someone tell me how to add these patterns to the patterns section of the materials' palette? Is there instructions for doing this in the user manual? If so, what word or phrase should I type in to get to the correct page? Thank you.

Go to:
File / Preferences / File locations
Click on the Patterns tab.
You will see where they are located on your hard drive.
Add them there.
PS: could you complete your Profile and add your PSP version?

Re: materials palette
You can add the patterns to the folder where they are stored; either the Corel default folder or one where you store your resources.
To find the location of the folder, click on the materials palette, then the pattern tab and More Options as show in the image below.

I see Jean-Luc and I posted around the same time. You now have two ways to find the file location.

Re: materials palette
I did the above suggestions and the patterns are not there, they are not showing up in the materials' palette as additional patterns. The names of the files are there, but the actual images are not.

Re: materials palette
What format are the patterns in? PSP can only use formats it is familiar with like JPG, PNG, etc.

Re: materials palette
Looks like you need to unzip the files so PSP can read them.

Re: materials palette
Kathy, I know the above file says zip, but they have been unzipped. I THINK. I put them in file explorer and clicked on extract all. When I search for them in PSP, I see all the individual patterns, so they are there, just not in the materials' palette. Also, I think they are JPGs.

I see on your screen capture that they are zip files. You need to unzip those files.agoodphoto wrote: ↑Sun Jul 04, 2021 12:29 am I did the above suggestions and the patterns are not there, they are not showing up in the materials' palette as additional patterns. Re: materials palette
Hello agoodphoto,
as people already suggested, unzipping the custom patterns into any folder, and then adding that folder on PSP's File->Preferences->File Locations [Patterns] list should enable them in the Materials Palette (assuming they are in a format PSP can understand: .png, .jpg, .pspimage, etc). Alternatively, you can unzip the custom patterns directly into one of the already existed folders of that list. If any of those folders contains sub-folders, you may also want to check the "Use sub-folders" box in the dialog, located right under the folders list. That box works on a per-folder basis, meaning you can have it checked for some folders, and unchecked for others.
Yet another option (well more of a workaround if you can't get the above right) is to simple open one of your custom patterns pic into PSP as if it was a regular pic (which is what it actually is), alongside your other regular pics. Then in the Materials Palette, under Patterns it would be available at the top of the patterns list. Actually, with that nice PSP feature, any opened pic can temporarily be used as a pattern (since they all show up at the top of the patterns list inside the Materials Palette).

Re: materials palette
migf1 - thank you but your suggestion is something I had already done and the screen shot shows what I got. I tried your second suggestion and that did not work either. I opened one of the patterns in PSP as a regular picture. In the materials palette I tried to add it to the palette and get a message that I can not do that because it has not been saved! Please tell me how to save the pattern so I can add it to the materials palette. (sub-folders box is checked).
Re: materials palette
The workaround lets you temporarily use any of the opened pics as a pattern, it doesn't let you save it permanently as a pattern.agoodphoto wrote: ↑Sun Jul 04, 2021 5:47 pm migf1 - thank you but your suggestion is something I had already done and the screen shot shows what I got. For saving them permanently, you should follow the other suggestions. Your screenshot is misleading, because it shows your custom patterns being added to the pattern-folders lists as zip files, instead of plain folders containing pics. I know you said you unzipped them, but you haven't shown any updated screenshot showing the custom folders containing the patterns as regular pics (.png, .jpg, .pspimage, or any other extension PSP can recognize). So my guess is you probably miss something in that step.
If you are sure you make everything right, try resetting PSP to its factory defaults by holding down the Shift key on your keyboard while launching PSP from its desktop icon (save any custom Workspaces first, for loading them back later, cause the reset will switch to the default workspace). After the reset, try the suggested methods.

Re: materials palette
Once you unzip/extract all the patterns will be placed in a new folder. Make sure your file location is pointing to the new folder with the patterns and not the original Zip folder as show in your screenshot.

Re: materials palette
Thanks to both of you who have tried to help. I can not show an updated screenshot showing the custom folders containing the patterns as regular pictures. I don't know how to add plain folders containing pictures. I don't know how to make sure the file location is pointing to the new folder. I don't expect you to keep responding. I'm just going to wait a day or two and try again.
