How to make a image the same as one half of it.

Post by jparnold »

I have tried many ways to clone the left side of the image below so that the entire image looks like the left side (of the red line) using the clone tool and varying the 'hardness' setting' though try as I may I just cannot make the entire image like the section to the left of the red line without it looking 'tiled'.
Is there a better way to do this or how can I use the clone tool more effectively?

Hello jparnold, I'm not sure what's the result you are going for.

You want the red line completely removed? That is, you want the resulting pic to be just a background matching the texture of the left side as much as possible?

I don't have or use PSP but if you want your left on the right, why not mix overlay of a fliped image over the original thru a diagonal very soft mask

Use the Object Remover Tool.
Select the right side.
Click on the 'Select Source' icon and draw a rectangle inside the left part.
Click Apply.
Make some cloning to correct if you want.

I have Smart Blending unchecked due to the red line, but you may check it on your original image. The result will be better.

Sorry I should have pointed out that the red line was added only so viewers could see the difference between the left of that (added) red line and the right of it. If I hadn't added the red line viewers may have wondered what I was on about as the difference between left and right is subtle (the tone and the texture). I want all of the image to look the same as the upper left third of image. When I used the clone tool I tried different size 'object' and also different hardness levels and I still could not get a nice 'texture' across the entire image.
Maybe I should have included the following to demonstrate what I was getting at -

I don't think it's possible without patterns repeating themselves with any kind of cloning, or semi-automatic seamless creation. It would require LOTS of manual work without guaranteed results. However, I may be missing techniques other guys can provide.

This may or may not give you what you are looking for. I took a square crop of the upper left side of the image and then increased it back to your original size.

Jean-luc's suggestion of Object Remover is a great one. I've used it many times before magic fill was introduced and still do since. It's meant to be used in textured surfaces. Speaking of, Magic Fill is another great option for this. I don't remember when it was added, but if you have access to Magic Fill, you just make a selection around the area you want to replace, and then hit the Magic Fill button on the tool options palette. Just make sure your selection has a decent feather so the effect blends.

Here are two examples
1 - Just regular magic fill
concrete - Copy.jpg

2 - Took the image above, offset it by 200 pixels x and y - performed magic fill on the seams and then offset by -200 x and y to put everything back. Makes it slightly more tileable. But the obvious dark and light spots mike the tiling obvious at more than 150%. So probably just a waste of my time, but it was also only a few clicks.

Thanks for all your interest and replies.
I thought perhaps that it would be very difficult not to end up with patterns repeating themselves and liked LeviFiction's "Took the image above, offset it by 200 pixels x and y - performed magic fill on the seams and then offset by -200 x and y to put everything back. Makes it slightly more tileable. But the obvious dark and light spots mike the tiling obvious at more than 150%. So probably just a waste of my time, but it was also only a few clicks. "
I will search the internet for another image of concrete which is as seamless as I can find.

Eric Matyas has a nice collection of images that he regularly updates in the Forum Chat section.

Here's a link to his images and he does have some concrete textures. Maybe you will find something there to suit your needs.

John - I looked at your preferences and they are set up to receive email notifications. I also checked the sent mail on the server and a notification was sent today at 2:51 p.m. Maybe check your spam folder to see if it ended up there.

" Maybe check your spam folder to see if it ended up there." I already checked there but nothing. The last email received at my Gmail was dated 21 June. I will change my contact email to my hotmail email address and hope for the best.

Thanks fro the links to freeware images. They are great plus they have freeware music for videos etc.

Something very strange going on. I attempted to change my email address and entered my password (as required) which I have stored in a document in my PC and the web site states it is incorrect.
What do I do now? How do I ask for my email address to be changed as I will never receive an email with a link in it (enabling me to change it) at ....@gmail.com

Strangely I can send myself an email at 'myname'@gmail.com (from another email account) and it goes through and I can read it yet I can't receive an email from this forum.

Maybe you can change it for me it is the same name as in my gmail address but with @hotmail.com instead of @gmail.com
