Re: Videostudio Pro 2021 Will Not Install
The more I read, the more depressed I become. The last update I purchased of VS was 19, and it was a big fail for me after trouble free years with previous versions.
My PC and laptop both have Win 10 OS and recent bombardment by Corel to get the latest VS at a discount had me wondering if I should?
But does VS2021 actually work any better than VS18, forget about the gimmicks, just plain performance - is it better?
If so, I may purchase before Win 11 comes along and stuffs everything until I spend a truckload more money on "a new way " to do what I was already happy with
Seems to me these nerds spend a lot of time making 10 different ways to do the same thing, and quite often no better than the first - just different and made to confuse this ol' fart

I do not find this post a problem
The original poster had purchased the disc version.
By downloading the installation files again allowed the program to install
The rest of the topic referred to Windows 11 which had nothing to do with the original problem
Video Studio 2021 appears to work ok with little or no silent crashes which plagued earlier versions, although we do know of some problems which may have been fixed with the latest service pack.
Acceleration support for AMD has been added which seems to improve things.
I cannot comment on increased speed as I have a newer pc / different pc so cannot really compare as it may be my pc that has improved rather than the program
Forgetting about the bells and whistles it does appear to be more stable than earlier versions
I would advise that you test the trial version to see how it works for you.
If you are not in a rush to change, then wait for early February when VS 2022 is due, Corel may now sell 2021 at a discount prior to 2022 release.

Re: Videostudio Pro 2021 Will Not Install
Thanks Trevor, sorry you may have miss-understood my concerns. It was not so much this thread but just the over-all issues that appear to be popping up
But you have reassured me on the basic performance of 2021 and I shall probably update so as not to fall too far behind
At my age, my needs are simple and I don't want to learn new ways to do the same thing, just stability of program and maybe a couple of New Features

Re: Videostudio Pro 2021 Will Not Install
Skipper,
Your last remarks caught my attention. So, just a passing comment since we live in the same place and marooned by Annastacia . . .
In 2020, I was stuck with a win10 Pc and 5 VS versions that simply would not perform on the platform (could not open share page correctly: just jammed the PC). Developed a theory about it, and while waiting to see if 2021 fixed that, I bought and learned a competing editor to catch up on my well overdue holiday projects. It took me a year to do a holiday in Japan (with a certain element of lazy in the mix), and the result is on a 2-disk set I just gave my wife to review. Lots of complaints about the alternative presentations!. And my theory was validated with 2021 working fine on the win10 platform. But as a result comparing the different features and ways of doing things in 2 software packages of nominally similar capability, I've developed a more nuanced view of VS. Part of the learning curve was that there is no standard terminology set; some things are the same, others have the same name but have different results. I didn't expect that but in retrospect it seems competing vendors in the same workspace just cannot use terms that mean the same thing. I guess the users who have and use multiple editor packages, that must not be a new thing. For ultimate to ultimate versions, the VS feature set is superior and easier to use, and the long-unimproved disk burn module is still a world beater.
If Corel would get it's support channel competitive (responsive and accurate) and gets the bugs out of the basic software it would be a 5 star winner.

Re: Videostudio Pro 2021 Will Not Install
I wanted to buy Videostudio Pro 2021 on Amazon but now it doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Thanks for your experience!regkaz wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 2:42 am I have Paintshop Pro 2021 and Videostudio 2019. I purchased Videostudio Pro 2021 on Amazon in DVD format.
I ran the DVD but it hung with the message "We encountered a problem while installing. Please contact technical support." I then crashed the program because the DVD was not progressing. I then decided to download the trial version instead.
I entered my serial number and got the same error message. Then I deleted Videostudio 2019 and tried again. Same error. Downloaded the 2019 cleanup tool, ran it, and tried to install again. Same error. It would be nice if it gave a technical spec as to what was causing the error.
Win 10 home 20H2 build 19042.1052 Ryzen 7 GTX 1080
How do I install this?

Re: Videostudio Pro 2021 Will Not Install
I now have this same problem.
Was working fine till the 18/09/21 and now will not run or reinstall. - This makes me think that some Windows update has killed the program. Have tried uninstalling all updates since 18/09/21 but they reinstall straight away.
Have been able to successfully install version 2019 but files are not backward compatible.
Spent 2 hours with Corel support remotely accessing my PC and attempting to install the software. They ended up with the same error message I had "We encountered a problem while installing. Please contact Technical Support."

Re: Videostudio Pro 2021 Will Not Install
I agree that something in windows update appears to have upset your machine, but Corel could do the same. And the usual answer for that is "both of the above" with most apparent place for the keys to that is the registry . .
Background for the registry comment:
I mentioned in a prior post a "theory" about why versions x9 thru 2020 would not function correctly after a win10 upgrade (from win 7). And the theory was that having first been installed under win7, there was something in the registry that caused the issue with win10 I was having. When CVS was installed, a search thru the registry with a key 'VideoStudio' found over 10,000 entries. Even when every version of CVS had been removed, there were 884 leftovers in there. My theory was that since 2021 was the ONLY version not previously installed under win 7, there should be no version specific leftovers and it should work. And when 2021 was released, that's exactly what happened: cvs 2021 worked under win10 fine. That leftover issue could be resolved with a clean install which not only starts with a clean C drive, but also a new registry, and I tried that, but the clean installation crippled my PC environment because there was so much older, working but not compatible gear still in it, so I elected to live with a migrated install which left the environment working but only versions of CVS with a problem. Essentially, a choice to minimise the pain.
So, when you re-installed 2021, how did you un-install previously?? (with a broken or corrupted CVS, the normal process would be uninstall, cleanup, re-install). But if a re-install doesn't work, the usual culprit is leftovers of the prior version in the registry causing a new install to have a heart attack.
In the clean-up process mentioned, did you use the 2021 clean up tool? See the detail for that in the clean-up tools topic at the very start of the VS index page, and note the precautionary warning. So, I suggest an uninstall, cleanup using the clean up tool, and then a re-install.

Re: Videostudio Pro 2021 Will Not Install
Hi Davidk
Thanks for your quick response.
Initially I simply used the program uninstall via Windows settings.
Then I used AVG Cleanup tool to check the registry and then I also purchased Revo Uninstaller Pro to try to cleanse the registry. All to no avail.
Since your response I have uninstalled VS 2019 (which did successfully install) and run the VS Cleanup tool for 2019 and 2020 which you mentioned.
Unfortunately it still won't install VS2021 so it looks like I need to do a clean install of Windows and start again. Since upgrading to VS2021 in Feb this year I have created a huge amount of content so I need to keep on with this version.
Thanks again.

Re: Videostudio Pro 2021 Will Not Install
I was able to install VideoStudio Ultimate by following your instructions. I had to install to a newer computer, but I'm very happy with the results. Thank you all for your assistance. It is very much appreciated.
