Greetings,
I have PSP5 on my computer, hubby has PSPXI. We downloaded some PSP5 image files to a USB stick, and put them on his computer. But his computer's PSPXI will not open them. It says, "This is not a valid Paint Shop Pro Image file." What are we doing wrong?
Thanks, in advance, for your help with this matter.
Cheers,
Diane

Re: Trying to open PSP5 files in PSPXI
Interesting, PSP 5 should be the oldest version it does support. Is there any other similarity between these images other than that they were made with PSP5? Are these flat images? Multi-layer images? What kind of layers do they contain? Does PSP5 let you save images for older versions of PSP? Can you create a test file saved in PSP5 format and share it here for us to test?

Re: Trying to open PSP5 files in PSPXI
Thanks for the reply, LeviFiction. The only similarity, that I know of, is that they were all made in PSP5. They are layered images. On one example, the layers are: background, vector, and raster ... total of 3 layers. I don't know if PSP5 lets me save older versions of PSP, as I have never had any reason to do so. I'd be happy to create a test file, if someone would be so kind as to tell me how to do that, please.

By a "test file" I just mean an image you don't mind sharing here on the forums so we can test out opening the image.

Re: Trying to open PSP5 files in PSPXI
PSP5 is a very old JASC version. Could it simply be that one or more of the layers in those images contain image data that newer Corel versions can't recognize, maybe the vector layer?

Re: Trying to open PSP5 files in PSPXI
That's what I hope to find out. The vector layer is most likely because if we save for PSP5 in newer versions of PSP it converts all groups, vectors, and art media layers to rasters first.

Re: Trying to open PSP5 files in PSPXI
I don't think it can be a PSP5 image as vectors were not implemented until PSP6.

Re: Trying to open PSP5 files in PSPXI
If that's the case then the poster must have erred and either be asking about PSP X5 images or is mistaken about there being a vector layer.

Re: Trying to open PSP5 files in PSPXI
Which is what the OP profile shows (PSPX5) .
Therefore the problem is that their pspimage file created in PSP X5 will not open in PSP X1.
They need to reload the image in PSP X5 and then resave it as pspimage file but using the Options lower right ofthe Save As dialog and choose Version - Save As and choose PSP 11 compatible file.
