Videostudio 2021 using 50% of CPU doing nothing

I'm using a trial version, allegedly the same as full version of Ultimate 2021. On startup, in GUI, waiting for command, VS is consuming more than 50% of the CPU, doing nothing. (in Task Manager) Windows apps are not supposed to do that, usually zero CPU usage when in wait state. I am new to Corel VS and to video editing in general, just learning, but am a retired software engineer, and worked on the predecessor of Windows in the 1980s. This behavior of VS 2021 is very unusual. Just look in Task Manager, anyone else noticing high CPU usage doing nothing? Maybe a flaw in trial version? I don't want to spend $(( on a defective product.

Not surprising to me. In monitoring my VS startups I see the Antimalware Service also runs and the CPU usage spikes for quite a while. Check what other applications/services kick in at the same time.

I have VS2020 Ultimate and I don't see high cpu usage. When it loads and is waiting for me to start something, it uses about 0.1%cpu according to task manager.

For me, when the GUI first opens, Task Manager shows 22% of CPU being used by VS 2021. But that is only for a second or two. Usage quickly drops down to the 1.3% to 2.2%, which it flickers between. This is with no command or function being used by VS apart from it being open on screen.

I also have PaintShop Pro 2021, Malwarebytes, Brave Browser, Sticky Notes and Task Manager itself open at the same time as VS, and total CPU usage for all these apps flickers between 7% and 16%.

So it does sound strange that you are getting such a high reading.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm guessing that something got bashed when they created the trial version. 0% is what it should be taking when idle...
