This is a strange one. I have been using PSP X8 for a while without any issues. I normally shoot in RAW and use another application to convert the RAW images to jpeg and then apply any final touches (blemish removal, sharpening etc.) to the jpeg images with PSP.
More recently I tried using the tif format from my Raw convertor in order to preserve the highest quality. The tif files are obviously much bigger in size than jpegs (for example some image files are 70MB in size). Now this is causing PSP some serious issues when I try to sharpen the images using a mask layer. The app crashes when I am editing the mask by dragging the mouse. It started to happen so frequently that I was thinking of getting another application. I have reinstalled PSP X8 a couple of times but the issue remains.
Strange thing is that the app doesn't crash as much if I DON'T drag the mouse and just use individual clicks to edit the mask (but this is quite tedious!).
As a work around I have gone back to exporting images in jpeg from my RAW convertor and PSP is much happier. Not noticed the same frequency of crashes. However I have another big set of photos to process which are fairly large in size (even when in jpeg, around 50MB). I would love to resolve this issue before I start editing those photos.
Would appreciate any tips/help on this. My inkling is that the graphics card (GeForce GT 635) may not have the legs to deal with bigger images but expected PSP to at least deal with that in a graceful manner instead of just disappearing with absolutely no warning.
