Reduce RGB Component Channel?

Post by haytil »

I have an image, and I want to mute the G and B components of each RGB pixel. In other words, for each pixel in the image, I want the R value to remain the same, but cut the G and B values by 50% (or any number I pick).

I'm not sure the best way to go about doing this - I'm sure it's a simple process, but I lack the terminology necessary to figure out how or find it via googling. What's the name for what I'm trying to do, and can you advise how I should go about doing it?

Thanks.

You don't state which version of PSP you are using and after I searched through your 4 posts could not find aany hints there either.
However this method works on all versions of PSP after Jasc PSP6 at least.
To test it out I sete up a new document at grey with RGB valuse all at 122
Then use Adjust > Color > Red/Green/Blue or shortcut Shift U.
I then reduced the Green and Blue by 40 units (this can be repeated multiple times to get a cumulative effect).
This is shown in the following screen grab using PSP X9 and gave a final image of R 122, G 73, B 72.

Another way, though a bit more involved, is via the Channel Mixer (either directly from the menu Adjust -> Color, or using an adjustment layer).
Here's what the docs say about it: http://help.corel.com/paintshop-pro/how ... lance.html (scroll down a bit, to the "to mix color channels" section).

Thanks for your help. I didn't want to specify which version I'm using, as I'm using an old version (PSP 8 ) and was hoping for a version-agnostic solution that would apply to nearly all versions (as this seems like basic functionality which would be present in all versions) or at least a modern version, whose terminology I could then use to figure out how to translate to PSP 8.

Fortunately, it looks like version 8 has Adjust->Color Balance->Red/Green/Blue, which is exactly what I need. Thank you!
