started having slow launch problem with PSP2018

Post by dwalby2 »

I've had this installed for 3+ years on a W8 machine, always started within 5-10 seconds. Launched it today and its taking 30-60 seconds, probably closer to 60, haven't timed it exactly. Uninstalled and re-installed and the same problem exists. I remember people having this issue a few years ago when 2018 was new, was there ever a cause/solution for it? thanks,
Joelle

As far as I know there isn't a solution to this.
I use PSPX9, which used to be fast, but after a Microsoft update some months ago, PSP took much longer to open. Am now getting used to it.
Patience is a virtue I keep telling myself :-)
The slowness no longer annoys me as much as it did!

I would love to see a return to a speedy start, but unless Microsoft stops messing around every 10 minutes it's likely not going to happen.
:-)

If you have PSP open, also open Task Manager. Go to the Details tab and locate the reference to PSP. Then go to the UAC Virtualization tab within that. Right click and choose Set Priority. In the menu which appears, it will probably be preset to Normal. Increase it up to Real Time. Next time you open PSP, it should open quite quickly. I've found this will work for a while, but gradually slows down, but you can do it again and again it will work for a while.

I tried setting the priority to realtime, but when I launch it the next time its back to normal priority, the realtime assignment doesn't seem to have any persistance.

Ah! It usually works for me for 5 or 6 openings, then I have to reset it again. I know very little about it, though, so can't really help further.
