No support for video with dual channel audio
Okay. I have been using Nvidia Experience to do Screen captures of my PC with the split audio feature enabled to separate video system sound and microphone input. Here is what I am talking about
When I try to edit the files created this way in VS 2020, the is no audio whatsoever. But there is actually audion there. I can play the file in VLC Player and it shows both tracks. See the example.
In VLC both tracks play just fine and the audio is complete with sound. But in VS the file shows NOTHING. The video has no sound associated with it.
What is to be done here? Is there a setting to my VS see the dual tracks? Or do need to strip the audio tracks out using an alternate software and add them later in the timeline?

Re: No support for video with dual channel audio
Is the audio from NVidia Dolby multi-channel? For some totally unknown reason, Corel have abandoned Dolby. Both multi channel (6.1) and dual channel Dolby no longer work under Win 7. But dual channel is still supposed to at least play under Win 10, which you have. That has been the case for quite some time now, and it could be that time has now also run out for dual channel Dolby.
All I suggest is that you use an audio editor such as the freeware audio, to convert the Dolby into, say, standard .wav format and insert that in VS. Or if the NVidea software allows it, save you capture in some other format than Dolby. I believe VLC Player may also have a converter built into it but I have never used it.

Re: No support for video with dual channel audio
So, what I have figured out about these files is that they have two tracks of audio and both tracks are stereo tracts with two channels. The codec is AAC. Here is a screenshot from VLC:

Re: No support for video with dual channel audio
Ken,
It seems that from windows 8.1 onwards, dolby is part of the OS. So naturally every editor has removed dolby support; Corel just failed to tell any of us. Dolby clips played in these windows versions still work. For win7 users with later versions of VS - say from 2018/19 - times are hard: no support in the editor and no OS support for it either.

Re: No support for video with dual channel audio
Digital Dolby for Windows 10 and Video Studio is still supported for Stereo it is the Surround Sound option that is no longer supported
When we use a video containing Surround Sound the program sees it as being stereo having the two channels L / R
Besides from the Media Info details it is clear that DD / AC3 is not being used.
The problem is using separate audio streams for the two audio channels as compared to one stereo stream more commonly used.

Re: No support for video with dual channel audio
So. I have figured out a way around this. It's not fun but it is not too complicated. I had to install the FFmpeg codecs so that Audacity can read an MP4 file and extract the audio from it. Audacity can read both stream tracks, but can only extract one at a time.
As you can see in this next screenshot, each track is stereo.
So using audacity, I can extract both tracks to WAV files and then add them back into VS so I can have independent volume control of both. A lot of extra work.
I guess my only question here is, why is this a problem. We are talking about Nvidia here. It is not like there are a bunch of other global leaders in their arena of technology. You've got ATI and that is about it. It just seems to me that when there is one leader, most software producers tend to follow that leader. Kind of like, Android or Apple. I mean if you write apps, you could always write one for some obscure unknown smartphone OS, but if you were writing for the mass market, you had better make sure your app is compatible with either iOS or Android. It just seems logical to me that things should work that way. There are literally hundreds of millions if not a billion people in the world using Nvidia technology, and I know there millions using their software to screen record. It just seems like this should not be a problem.

Re: No support for video with dual channel audio
A little short as a sample, but I do hear sound although for only 1 second
A little like jungle sounds
VS 2020 sees the audio as stereo although low volume so I don’t see any waveform when viewing Sound Mixer

Re: No support for video with dual channel audio
Oops! Sorry. I did not realize it was just a one-second video. I just chose it based off of file size. I thought you just wanted to see the technical data of the video file created. It was a screen recording of a hunting game. I can record anything on my screen though by hitting ALT+F9, as I just did right now and created a file for you. Here is the file. It is longer than one second.asik1 wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 5:35 pmCome on Jungle. 1sec clip???jungleexplorer wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 4:11 pmOkay. Here is a sample.

Jungle, that file has only one track.
Again, you better record 2 different sounds on those 2 tracks so we know which is which.
