Tool Options and image window

Post by Lokey B »

Can't adjust the tool options while hovering over image - PSP2021.
I've been using PSP since it was PSP9. I've always been able to click on a tool, click on a tool option such as size or rotation, and then hover over the image and move the mouse wheel to get the tool just exactly the right size, rotation, thickness, etc. When I try this in PSP2021, it just resizes the whole image window. Only when I hover over the specific tool option in the menu can I adjust the option with the mouse wheel. I've contacted Support who say this is the way it works. But the previous versions didn't work that way. Is there anyway to reset or fix this?

No, there is nothing you can do to change this behavior. Only Corel can do that.

First, a workaround is to use your arrow keys. Highlight the box, then use your arrow keys to change the numbers while the brush is over the canvas. That will let you see how the brush outline is oriented. I don't know of any setting in PSP or in Windows to explain the differences you're seeing.

Second, this is an interesting observation. I get two different results depending on which computer I'm on. I should note that I'm not using 2021 I'm using 2020 here as I only have 2021 installed on one computer not two.

On my computer at work, even accessed through Remote Desktop, if I highlight the number box on the Tool Options Palette and then put my mouse over the canvas, scrolling increases the numbers. But on my laptop at home, the same version of the software, will only zoom when scrolling on my touch pad. Not sure what to make of that.

Here is a video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tiO-E_ ... sp=sharing

The first copy of PSP2020 (black canvas) is on my laptop. I first click in the "Rotation" box and then scroll over the canvas. The canvas zooms in. I then click on the rotation box and scroll over that and the numbers go up but no matter what I do I cannot get the rotation dialog to stay active while scrolling over the canvas.

The second version (red canvas) is my work computer accessed over Remote Desktop. So it's a different machine the software is running on but the same input device. And still you see a different behavior. I accidentally drag the window away at the beginning so ignore that. But I first activate the size number box, then move the cursor over the image and scroll. The number box changes and you see the outline grow and shrink. Immediately this is different behavior to what was shown on my local laptop. So I then activate the Rotation number box and do the same thing. You see the brush live update the outline to match the rotation as it changes, the canvas does not zoom.

Thank you. I'll try the arrow keys. That's really weird about the 2 computers. But I think this is a problem with the 2921 version.

In Windows try
Start > Settings > Devices > Mouse and change the Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them to Off.
When it is on you just have to hover over Size Opacity etc and roll the mouse to change them BUT when you hover over the image and rotate the image zooms in and out

When it is Off, you can click size, Opacity etc to make it active and then hover over the image and rotate the mouse wheel to change the sizing. You have to click on the property first each time to make it active.

In addition if you hold the Alt key down and drag your mouse upward in the image it will make the brush tip smaller while dragging it downward will make it larger and this works in both cases.
