Help Creating a Script for Enhancing Old Newspaper Photographs
Hello,
It has been over a year since I last posted on the forum looking for advice on how to remove “halftone” from old newspaper pictures, see the link.
https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=66456
I was very grateful for the help I received back then from Kathy_9, Jean-Luc, Jorgensen, JoeB and Andy 2011.
Surprisingly, as part of my project, I have only just found the time to begin working on the 160+ photographs. I have now decided that it is not that important to lose all/any of the “halftone” as I now think that it adds a bit of character. Although if some is lost during enhancement it is not a problem.
However, I really need to try and enhance each photograph, so here is my plea for help.
Given that I have so many photographs, I am a complete amateur and only have limited spare time, could anyone please help me to create a “script” that I might apply to all the photographs?
Most of the photographs are pretty similar with regards to quality etc., so I am hoping this can be achieved, obviously, some are going to be a little different and may need further tweaking.
Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated,
Kind regards,
Pete.

Re: Help Creating a Script for Enhancing Old Newspaper Photographs
I would suggest to scan the photos with the highest resolution (far higher than that attached).
1. Apply a Gaussian Blur.
2. Downsize to needed resolution.
3. Apply Unsharp Mask.

Thanks for the reply fs999, but I can't scan the originals. What you see and what I have are photographs of the original pictures,
regards,
Pete.

Re: Help Creating a Script for Enhancing Old Newspaper Photographs
Hello Jean-Luc,
I am a complete novice when it comes to photo restoration etc. The pictures are all 72 dpi, but I think they are different sizes. If it makes any difference they will all be printed out at the same size which will be about 40mm wide keeping aspect ratio. I will post two more examples for you.
kind regards,
Pete.

Re: Help Creating a Script for Enhancing Old Newspaper Photographs
It appears that the Tiff images were too large for the forum settings, thanks.
