Splitting right and left audio/ copying left then put it on r channel

Post by brucefl »

Hi,
VS21 I have a video I recorded from tape. The right side is quite noisy, the left side is good. Though it is music, the filters do not seem to clean it up enough.
Can the right and left be split? Then I want to duplicate the left channel to the right one for a clearer sound?
I can split it from the video. I can also turn the right side down, I have tried to do another music channel, but when I past it, it is still a copy of the left side instead
of making a right channel? Can it be done in VS21?
thanks for the help
Bruce

I think you are expecting too much from a video editor, you could try Audacity, it's free, it should be able to do what you want

Robert has your answer. Audacity has very good filters but it also has a learning curve. If you make the audio track available I or someone else here will give it a go for you. You can get Audacity from this link:

Bruce, have you tried using the Sound Mixer to Duplicate Audio
I do not have a sample to test to see if this option works but does appear to copy one channel to another, ( Left to Right)

It also duplicates the right side. When I split the audio it takes it from the the video. I have tried splitting the audio again, but it does not seem to split the channels?

As said I do not have a suitable sample to try this with

There is no need to split audio as duplicate can be applied to the video as my image shows
If the duplicate option does not do for you then use audacity

First i would create an audio file from the video using share – audio – wav option
This will create a sound file of the entire project so you would have to use a new project with only the one video file.

If you can provide a short sample of the video the we can have a go with the various options

The only format it will let me attach is picture formats? I made an audio and a short video. Is it that it can not be send in the forum? I even tried private message? I thought you could so far it has not let me. thanks

Bruce -

In VideoStudio:
1. Load your video and split out the audio (select video track, Edit > Split Audio).
2. Turn OFF the video track.
3. Share the Audio track, export as WAV file.
4. Return to Edit tab and delete all tracks to have clean slate.

Open Audacity.
1. Drag/drop (or File > Open > [navigat to and select WAV file].
2. On far left of the track display pane, above the Mute and Solo buttons, click on [your file name] - a drop list opens.
3. From the drop list select Split Stero Track.
4. Select the noisy track and select/mark the beginning to end.
5. Effect > Noise Reduction... then follow up on values and click OK.
6. Adjust as needed.
7. From the top track, on far left of the track display pane, above the Mute and Solo buttons, click on [your file name] - a drop list opens.
8. From the drop list select Make Stero Track.
9. File > Export > Export as WAV.

Return to VideoStudio.
1. In VideoStudio, load your video but turn OFF the audio on the video track.
2. Load your edited WAV file.
3. Go to town.

Well let me try this if it works from One Drive. There will be 3 files one is a big one because it an MP$ with video and the static. Another is audio with static the 3rd is w/o static (might be just a little too much reverb) with the left side duplicated and combined.
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AuD5oi5XoOgXjReV6gI ... m?e=1XIart This is the wav. without the static the one below is with it.
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AuD5oi5XoOgXjRbW4eG ... X?e=oGQHHk
This is the 3rd one, the mp4 it is about 308 meg. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AuD5oi5XoOgXjRjPqYC ... 8?e=lRlNME

Hopefully I have it correct, the only thing I have to remember is timing or else it will be like some Youtube video's with the voices not synced.
Thanks for the help guys. Bruce

Suggestion on how to process this video follows:
  1. In VS, render just the audio as a WAV file (48,000kHz, 16 bit, stereo)
  2. Import the stereo WAV file into Audacity
  3. In Audacity use the "Split Stereo Track" option to separate the L and R channel
  4. Use Audacity's effects to adjust the audio as required (if the static on the R channel can't be remove then try muting it and check the sound quality)
  5. Export the channel(s), free of the static, as a WAV.
  6. In VS, mute the audio of the video, and then add the WAV file exported from Audacity back to your video

There should be no problem with synchronization, as the WAV file exported from Audacity, will be in sync with the video clip in VS.
