Now I remember the chief reason I reverted to using my ancient PSP 8 instead of PSP 2018 a couple of years ago. The exasperation I had when trying to add text!
But I need to use 2018 right now to add names to photographs (because I also need rulers, and PSP 8 crashes whenever I dare to move one after its initial placement).
So could someone (preferably a user who remembers how simple it was in old versions) remind me of the simplest possible steps to get text quickly onto locations of my choosing please. No dragging or resizing marquees!
Terry
Quick reminder please!

Re: Quick reminder please!
For one object/layer I'm not aware of any other method besides dragging (or using the keyboard arrow-keys - plain or combined with Shift Control or Shift + Control) and using Guides for precise placement (I think you meant Guides, not Rulers)
There is also the "Objects -> Align" menu which can help if you want to place your text at predefined places in the canvas. However, the "Objects -> Align" and "Object -> Distribute" menus can help a lot when working with multiple layers/objects. They also have icon shortcuts on the Options toolbar of the Pick tool.

Re: Quick reminder please!
Thanks. I’d prefer to leave aside the alignment aspects, which I have no problem with. (PSP 8 uses Rulers, horizontal and/or vertical, as well as guides.)
I’m looking for something as close to PSP 8’s procedure as possible:
1. Click at the intended location.
2. Type (or paste) the string of text I have in mind. (Possibly before I forget it!) In familiar black on a white background, as in most text work on a PC, for maximum visibility. PSP 8 uses a separate text window, which I personally far prefer. But if it has to be a box in the main window I can live with that - providing its defaults let me start at once with black on white, and have the box expand automatically to accommodate my choice of font size.
3. Change font colour, size, etc as required.

Re: Quick reminder please!
Terry, you can still get back the old input text-box by Shift + Clicking inside the canvas with the Text tool active (instead of single-clicking): https://gyazo.com/960da6af3914f685e4589d31ecad99ab

Brilliant, what a welcome revelation, thank so much! So simple ... once you know.
