PaintShop Pro 2021 Crashing

Post by Wykkyd »

Hi all! I have started having issues with my PSP 2021 crashing when the pop up for "Recent Colors" box comes up. If I right click the color swatches being used, the Recent Colors pop up comes up, has about 8 color swatches in it, but they were not colors I recently used and it crashes the entire program. It happens in the 32 bit version. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!!

Thank you very much! So far so good. I have just been utilizing the 64 bit. I like my 32 bit because some of my old plugins only work in that one. But, so far so good. Thanks so much!! :D

I'm desperate because after Corel's unsuccessful support, Ticket # 6536403, I don't know what else to do in order to be able to use and work again with PaintShop Pro 2021, version 23.1.0.27 x64. I am using Windows 10 Home, version 20H2, OS build 19042.928, Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0.

The problem is that the PSP crashes whenever I want to use the text tool and I park the cursor over the multiple selection box of the different fonts to choose one. The PSP disappears from my screen and gives no indication of what happened.

The person from Corel who supported me, last stage of the level system, says:

"What happens technically seen in your main account is a limitation in permissions to access the Windows fonts. This normally happens when users have limited rights, something I wouldn't assume in your case as you are the administrator.

However, the reason why PSP crashes is with your Visual Studio C ++ 2012.
Your installed version of Visual Studio C ++ 2012 works fine, but I have seen in a lot of other cases that when customers had older systems from a time before Windows 10 was released and they had upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10, that the permissions to use Visual Studio C ++ 2012 was somehow corrupted.
In other words, as a User "Rui Pinheiro", you are not allowed through PSP2021 to access the system fonts."

In my case it was a migration from Windows 7 to 10.
Has anyone had a similar experience and can you help me?

Do you have access to the fonts with other programs (Word, Writer,...)?
If you run PSP with administrator rights, does the crash happen?
Did you do a PSP reset (see Option 2 here: https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=67616)

Hi Rui and welcome to the forum. It sounds like Corel support identified an issue. Did they also offer a solution?

Thank you for your post.
. All other programs have access to the fonts but the crash also happens with previous PSP 2019 version. The problem was detected at same time. Previously I was able to work without anomalies with both programs.
. I have administrator rights.
. Yes, I did the suggested PSP reset, option 1. Same results.

Thanks Kathy, The Corel support regarding this situation was this time slow and no solution. Until final recommendation it took more than a 1,5 month. The final suggestion was, besides the considerations already written in my initial post to consult Microsoft.
a.) a program works or it doesn't work = it's just 0 or 1 in computer terminology. If it works in a new account, then the program is fine.
b.) if something changes, then it's the system = in other words, if the user account changes, then contact Microsoft and ask them to find out what has changed in your account.
It would be impossible to make a software that works for billions of differently set up user profiles. I hope you can see my point and agree with that.
I tried to contact Microsoft but, at least for me, its impossible. They do everything possible to not let their customers bother them. However they say that feedback is appreciated.

Two suggestions:
- update your graphic card driver (if needed)
- repair the Visual Studio (make a Google search for how to)

I had a similar issue with PSP 2020 when I first started using it. I had some weird fonts in my fonts folder that would work in other programs but on PSP 2020 I noticed the "preview" of the font in the font window wasn't there, it was blank. Once my cursor hit one of those "blank" fonts, PSP just *POOF* no warning, disappeared off the screen.

I took note of the fonts that were wonky in PSP and removed them from Windows. Works ok now.

I am dealing with the R6025 C++ error atm with PSP 2021. I just did a repair on the C++ 2012 files so we'll see how that works. Next step will be to uninstall and reinstall it. *Fingers crossed*

Thanks again for the help :)

Hi Jean-Luc, thank you very much for the recommendations. I am sorry to take so long to answer but, as we say locally, the problems and conversations are like cherries never come just one.
- I started by unloading the PSP 2021.
- I verified that the driver of the graphics card is updated.
- Upgrading all Visual Studio C ++ Redistributable modules was a tough nut to crack, but it's done.
- I reinstalled the PSP 2021.
- Test results with the "Text" tool:
The update of the Visual Studio Redistributable modules appears to have a positive effect on the behavior of the PSP 2021. It has already been possible to make several changes to the font name and size, but after less than 5 minutes, the PSP crash again and disappear from the screen.

If you have any more ideas, I would appreciate it very much.

Perhaps a specific font that PSP doesn't like when browsing fonts?

Hi Jean-Luc, Hi Wykkyd,
You two made me turn to the possibility that there might be something wrong with the fonts. Much research time later, I think I have finally found the culprits for the bad behavior of PSP 2021 and 2019:
- Various fonts: DFPOP1-W9 and others starting with "DF", all together in the font list (C:> Windows> Fonts).
After these fonts were deleted and the PSP was restarted, I no longer had the problem.
- Cumulatively, it would also have been useful to repair all Visual Studio C ++ 2005 to 2019 Redistributable programs, all deleted and the latest version downloaded. To do this the indications given in the link attached were very useful:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/ ... aries.html

I hope that the solution found for my problem can be useful to someone else.
Thank you all very much for the suggestions you gave me and for sharing your experiences.
