Timecode starts at 00:00:00 for split clips

Post by Cyberchulo55 »

Hello all. Just wondering if this is some setting that can be changed. If I have a 10 second clip and I split it at the 5 second mark, the second clip should continue at the 6 second mark when I click on it. But when I click on the second clip, the time code is set back at 0.

I usually work by running the full clip in a video player and key in the time code to get to that point faster. But if I were to type in 08:23 seconds, it will not find it in the second clip. Any ideas on this?

Project v Clip playback

The project timeline starts at (zero) 00:00:00:00 and continues to the end of the project displayed on the digital clock
If we select an individual clip ( shows a yellow bounding box) then the clock displays that clips duration starting at zero and that is what you are seeing.

Clicking the top of the timelines along the timecode will position the cursor and switch to Project Playback, the word project will show in blue adjacent to the play button, the clock will indicate the cursor project position.

In Project Playback you can type in a time to reposition your cursor anywhere along the timelines

Thank you for your reply. I understand the difference between the project and clip timelines. But I upgraded from Corel Videostudio x8 and that the behavior exhibited in 2021 was changed. Let's say I cut a clip at the 10 second mark. Then I want to cut the next clip (which starts at the 11 second mark) back to start at 8 seconds using the timecode. It won't let me do it unless I drag the mark in time back to the beginning of the clip.

Nice one
So you cut at 10 seconds, then wish to add 2 seconds to the start of clip 2
That would duplicate clip 1 ending with clip 2 beginning.
Yes I do see a difference in the way X9 reacts to doing this (don’t have X8 installed), most unusual, certainly I have not noticed this before, I will check VS 2020 to see how that reacts.
It appears using the clock to navigate back to 8 sec just does not work and the clock gets mixed up, for want of a better description
Using X9 does move the cursor back where I can hit the Mark-in to add the extra frames, Hmmmm

Post Updated
VS 2020 works as expected same as X9 so it does appear to be an issue with 2021 only

Thanks for raising this issue

I have passed details of this topic and the Trim / Mark-In details to the Corel developers / Support

also attached video screen shot showing 2021 and 2020, affect simplified by using the overlay track, effect is the same, clock remains as 00:00:00:000 and cannot use Mark-In
