They are referring to PSP2021 only being compatible with Windows 64-bit. They no longer support 32-bit Windows. You can still run both 32-bit and 64-bit PSP2021 on 64-bit Windows 10.

Just an idea, maybe useful.
If "File/Import/From Scanner or Camera..." works, you could shortcut it by adding the "From Scanner or Camera..." as a button to a toolbar so you can skip the File/Import clicks.

Right-click in the Complete workspace, and click on Customize... to open the customize dialog.
Activate the Commands tab.
Click on File in the Categories (left) window.
Scroll to the From Scanner or Camera... command in the Commands (right) window.
Click on that and drag it to a toolbar. You can release it anywhere on a bar when X turns to |, between two buttons or at the end of the bar. Click Close on the Customize dialog and it's done.

It might even be possible to write/record a script to open the scanner and wait for any necessary input before scanning, but that isn't my strong point. There are people here that can help you with the customization and/or script better than I can.

Good luck.

Clive,

That is not what Kathy_9 is saying.

Here is the full context laid out hopefully I'll explain it well.

PSP 2021 can only be installed on the Windows 64-bit Operating System. Which you have. When Corel support says that they no longer support 32-bit they mean they don't support the 32-bit version of PSP. You don't have to worry about this.

Once you purchase PSP 2021 you will want to uninstall the Trial. You'll download the full installer from Corel and use that to re-install the software. Upon re-installing the software you'll be given the option to install the 32-bit copy of PaintShop Pro as well as the 64-bit copy. PSP 32-bit can run on Windows 64-bit. So that's fine. If you then want to scan you'll need to use the 32-bit version of PSP 2021 when doing so.

Thanks Forriner

Iv'e tried what you said about creating a shortcut and have to say its certainly a whole lot better, I'll certainly be using that for now.
I'm glad you said writing a script is not your strong point. It sure as hell ain't mine LOL

I'm assuming the original existing shortcut should work if everything is running on 64 bit, at the moment my computer system is, the trial software is, so I need to sort the printer out somehow.

Thanks again

Levi

Thanks for clarifying what Kathy said, so I may as well download both the 32 and 64 bit versions.

Kathy also gave me a link for some drivers for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 Printer.

How do I find out what driver my printer is running on although I suspect its 64 bit otherwise if it was 32 bit the toolbar scan icon would have worked.

Just to recap my computer system is 64 bit and I’m using Windows 10

Your drivers are most likely 32-bit for Windows 64-bit. This is why it's confusing. Some drivers say 64-bit but what they mean is "designed to work on 64-bit systems" while the drivers themselves are still only 32-bit drivers.

The scanner icon most likely does not work because currently you are using PSP 2021 x64 which is the 64-bit software. 64-bit software cannot load 32-bit drivers.

This is what we think is happening. Your drivers are 32-bit so PSP 64-bit cannot call them. If you buy PSP and install the 32-but PSP from the installer then you should be able to get the scanner to work.

OS: Windows 64-bit
Scanner Drivers: 32-bit
PSP Version currently installed: 64-bit

You need PSP 2021 32-but to call your Scanner 32-but drivers.

You can try looking in this folder C:\Windows\twain_32 to see if there are 32-bit twain drivers for your Scanner installed. But I don't guarantee that will work.

@LeviFiction,

My question is whether or not a simple script, run from 64bit PSP, can open a 32bit scanner software. For example, I have Canon Scan Utility, which is a 32bit executable that opens a small interface with the Twain scanner software Scan Gear as an option. That allows me to preview and then scan from my Canon printers as well as automatically sending the scan to PSP (or any other program or destination). Having a button script on my PSP 64bit toolbar that would open the executable and then just let me run the scanner would be much more convenient than having to have a 32bit version of PSP open to use the scanner Twain interface.

If you can think of a way to do it, perhaps you could post it in the Scripts sub-forum with a link here in this thread. Or let me know here that it can't be done. :-)
Regards,

JoeB

Can you run a stand-alone program from scripts? Yes. How you go about it is the issue. We should take it out of this topic, however, and move it to the scripting section as we don't want to hijack the topic here. I started a topic here - https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=68111 Nothing complicated, and very vague response but it's all there really is to it.

With regards to Clives issue, in addition to the printer driver provided by Kathy, most multi-functional printer/scanners come with with excellent software, HP not being an exception. Below is a link to all drivers and software for the HP 8730.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/se ... es/7902049

And the printer comes with scanning software called Readiris Pro 16:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/se ... j-177188-3

And apparently it is rated very highly!
https://fixthephoto.com/best-photo-scan ... tware.html

My own printer/scanner is a Brother and I tend to use its scanning software because of its versitility. Not only can it scan individual photos but it can also scan multiple pages via the document feeder which is a huge time saver! It also has OCR capability to convert pdf's into Word/text etc.

So my suggestion would be to use this software to scan the photo/document(s) and then open PSP for further editing if necessary.

Thank you for the lowdown on the drives its much appreciated, I bet your wondering why I need to know about such things as they are probably elementary to you.
The truth of the matter is I’ve always had someone do any software installing for me so I’ve more or less just used the computer as a tool, but thought I’d have a go at doing things for myself.

Having said that, I didn’t grow up with computers in fact when I was growing up the nearest thing you could get to a calculator was a slide rule :-) failing that it was logarithms and anti logs and working square roots out long hand, those were the days.

Right back to Corel, I’ve been in contact with them and sure enough they have confirmed I can download both the 32 and 64 bit versions even though as you said the 32 bit in no longer supported.

I’d like to quiz you a little more, when I come to download the full program, should I download both 32 and 64 bit but just install the 32 bit.
I assume there is a difference between downloading both versions to actually installing them both.
I’m only guessing here, but if I install both will they conflict?

Levi can I also take you back to where you suggested how to find out what driver my printer is using.
I’ve done as you said C:\windows\twain_32 and been presented with a folder HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 and just below that folder wiatwain.ds whatever that means.
Anyway, I opened the HP folder and saw the following:
HPScanUI.dII
hpxsTwain.ds
ScanApp.ini

Any ideas on what the above mean plus I still can’t see what driver my printer is using, I assume it must be using something?

It means your drivers are 32-bit like we thought they might be. If they were 64 bit they would be found in a twain_64 folder instead. hpxTwain.ds is the actual TWAIN driver used to communicate with the scanner.

You'll only get one installer, this single installer lets you install either 64 or 32-bit PSP or both. There is no conflict between 64-bit and 32-bit PSP if you install both. It's why they allow it as an option. You cannot run both 32-bit and 64-bit PSP at the same time, but other than that they'll quietly sit side by side with no issues. Here is how I would make the decision on what to install.

The only thing you waste installing both 64-bit and 32-bit PSP is HDD space. If you have only a limited amount of HDD space and you're worried about running out, only install the version that is most useful to you. In this case 32-bit for compatibility with your scanner. However, if you can easily use 3GB of space I recommend installing both 64-bit and 32-bit as they each have their uses. 32-bit is compatible with older hardware like your scanner as well as older software like 32-bit plugins. While 64-bit can use more RAM, offering speed improvements when working with large images, and can run newer 64-bit plugins and hardware should you ever upgrade and get a scanner with 64-bit drivers. Sort of future proofing you.

Thank you for the links regarding the drivers, I really can’t remember how I got the printer to work.
I guess I must have run it with a disc which came with it and blindly followed the setup, as I mentioned early, I’ve never done any firmware updates for fear of installing something HP may have included to prevent me from using compatible ink cartridges.
Having said that, I have put new cartridges in but used genuine HP ones because of the guarantee, but next time I’m hoping to try some compatible ones.

Corel tells me I can install the software on two devices, I’m not sure if you can answer this one but for what its worth.
Assuming I install onto a PC and also a laptop and heaven forbid one of the hard drives needed formatting for some reason or another, would I have to purchase a new licence key to be able to activate the software again even though it was going back onto a machine which it had already been on?
