Connect PaintShop Pro Ultimate to my Scanner
Hi Guys
Can someone out there sort me out, Iv'e got Corel PaintShop Pro Ultimate 2021 on my computer and I'm trying to get it to work with my scanner.
The scanner is an all in one printer scanner HP Officejet Pro 8730, I'm using Windows 10 and a 64 bit system.
At the moment in order to get Pro Ultmate to recognise the scanner I have to do the following:
With program open click:
File,
Import,
From Sanner or camera,
Then select HP 8730,
Click OK and then wait while it makes the connection,
Then click Scan.
When Iv'e finished and I need to scan something else I have to go through the same procedure all over again.
With my old scanner printer I use to click
File,
Import,
Twain,
Aquire.
Am I doing anything wrong to get the 2021 version to connect with my scanner as it seems a lot clicks in order to do it?
Thanks to anyone who can help
Clive

Re: Connect PaintShop Pro Ultimate to my Scanner
Is the driver for your scanner 32 bit or 64 bit? And if 64 bit, is it supposed to be able to use TWAIN? Few 64 bit scanners come with drivers capable of seeing and using TWAIN, and -- like my Brother CDW9340, I have to use the procedure you do (Import > From Camera or Scanner).
The other alternative of course is to do your scans using the 32 bit version of PSP. When you installed PSP you would have been asked what you wanted to install, and installing both 32 and 64 bit versions was what was recommended. Apart from reasons associated with 32-bit plugins, scanners are another reason to have 32 bit PSP.

Thank you for your reply Ken
I’ve just uninstalled a very old Jasc PaintShop Pro 8 program which looks like it’s a 2003 version, its what I’ve been using with my existing scanner and to get it to scan I just clicked File, Import, Twain, also having had another look at it under System Information it says Bits Per Pixel 32.
There just seems a lot more steps in order to get the new version of PaintShop Pro to do the same thing.
I’ve got some old woodworking magazines which I want to scan articles from and save them onto my computer, I just can’t help thinking it’s going to take me forever to do it.
Do you have any ideas on how I can speed the process up?
You also mentioned checking to see what driver the scanner is using; can you tell me how to go about finding that out.
Sorry if it all seems very elementary to you, but I’m a silver surfer and don’t know a huge amount about installing things and getting them to work on computers.

Re: Connect PaintShop Pro Ultimate to my Scanner
Hello again Ken
I’ve watched a video on how to find out what driver the printer is using and all I can see in the Driver box is HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 PCL-6 and on a drop list the following:
HOJ 8370_Fax_Driver
Microsoft IPP class driver
Microsoft print to PDF
Microsoft software printer driver
Microsoft XPS document writer v4
Send to Microsoft Onenote 16 Driver
I have to admit all I’ve ever done with the printer since having it from new is just plug and play.
I’ve never done any updates to it as I believe HP can put something on the printer to prevent it from recognising compatible ink cartridges and at over £100 a pop for a a set of four genuine ones, I’d like to give them a miss.
Having said that I have bought some HP ones whilst the printer was still under guarantee.

Re: Connect PaintShop Pro Ultimate to my Scanner
Have you tried using the 32-bit version of PSP2021 as Ken mentioned earlier? I find this the quickest way to scan as you simply click on the scan icon on the menu bar.
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

Hello Kathy
Thank you for your reply, as Iv'e already mentioned how do I go about finding out if the printer is using 32 bit or 64 and how do I go about changing it should I need to?
See my earlier comment the old PSP was running on 32 bit with the same printer, all Ive done is install the latest PSP

Kathy
I’ve just had a go at your suggestion and clicked the scan icon on the menu bar and I get a message Scanner not found.
I do very much like the idea of a single click to get PSP to scan, if only I can get it to work.

Re: Connect PaintShop Pro Ultimate to my Scanner
Printing is different from scanning. In printing you send to the Print Spooler (a program built into Windows) which manages the connection to the printer driver for you. Microsoft WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) is similar it's a built in Windows app/interface for talking with your scanner but is very limited. It's why you click so many times to use it. TWAIN is the better option as it calls your scanner's software drivers directly. However, it's limited by the calling process. If the program that calls it is 32-bit then only the 32-bit drivers will respond. If the program is 64-bit only the 64-bit drivers will respond. Which is the problem you're running into. If your drivers are 32-bit only (which I have no doubt they are) then you need to be running the 32-bit version of PSP to call them using TWAIN.
Clive, which version of PSP are you using? The 64-bit or the 32-bit? I'm not asking about your driver for your scanner, I'm asking about the PSP software itself.
If you go to Help -> About and look at the bottom of the dialog it'll tell you the full version # of your PSP install and should have an "x64" if it's the 64-bit version. Did you install the 32-bit version when you bought the software or did you only install the 64-bit version? Or did you activate the trial? If you installed the trial that would be 64-bit only on your system.

Re: Connect PaintShop Pro Ultimate to my Scanner
Here's some information on your printer: https://www.hp-file.net/hp-officejet-pro-8730-driver/
Things can get confusing because there are 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems (Windows 10); 32-bit and 64-bit versions of PSP2021 and 32-bit and 64-bit printer/scanner drivers.
Clive, My Windows 10 computer is 64-bit. I only get the scanner not found message if I am using the 64-bit version of PSP. The 32-bit version of PSP2021 works just fine when using the scan icon.
When you installed PSP2021 did you download both the 32-bit and 64-bit version? Which version of PSP2021 were you using when you received the scanner not found message?

Re: Connect PaintShop Pro Ultimate to my Scanner
Levi and Kathy
First of all, I haven’t purchased it at all yet, I’m running a trial one just to see how I get on with it.
Back to which version it is, if I open the program and click Help and then About it says x64, just to mention again my computer system is 64 bit but I assuming that makes no difference in this instance?
Can you tell me how I can change the trial version to 34 bit please and thank you for explaining the reason I can get it to print and not scan.
I’m sure I read somewhere both 32 bit and 64bit can be downloaded at the same time, sadly I’ve reached that age where I can’t remember what I’ve done today never mind what I did yesterday

Re: Connect PaintShop Pro Ultimate to my Scanner
As Levi Fiction said above, the trial version only comes in 64 bit so you will not be able to access 32 bit TWAIN using the trial and will be limited to Import > From Camera or Scanner.Clive wrote:Can you tell me how I can change the trial version to 34 bit please
To get TWAIN to work, you will need to buy the full program. Then you must uninstall the Trial version and install the full version. In doing so, accept the recommendation it will offer you to install both 32 and 64 bit versions of PSP.

Thank you for the link on the printer, but how can I find out if my printer is 32 or 64 bit or again does it not make any difference to PSP?
In other words is it just the PSP program which needs to be 32 bit?

Just thought I'd ask, i think the PaintShop Pro Ultimate 2021 is £89.99, does anyone know where I can get it maybe a bit cheaper?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Connect PaintShop Pro Ultimate to my Scanner
Iv'e just been on the PaintShop Pro website chat and Iv'e been told both Pro and Ultimate are only compatible with 64 bit???
