The Cost of Loyalty

Post by tletter »

Just received this upgrade offer from Corel and it's $5 cheaper than the recently expired "loyalty" offer! Clearly it pays not to be loyal to VS

That isn't for the Ultimate version.

I thought the same thing, then I read that it's the pro version and not ultimate.

Judging by the number of emails I've received from Corel, sales of upgrades to the new version are in the tank. I'm not even considering it because there's nothing new that I would use and some things have been removed.

Yes I see that now.

In addition for me, the inability to export a VSP in a version compatible with a previous version of VS is an obstacle, as is the longstanding stability problem of new versions. I'd really like to just be able to reliably use VS and not have to spend an ordinate amount of time troubleshooting it.

Hi,
I just want to mention that the 2021 version has been a tremendously good release for me. The program seems markedly more responsive and I haven't had a single crash while producing two corporate videos. The new motion blur feature has made the program useful for the inclusion of motion graphics. If nobody upgrades for the reasonable fee then this venerable program, which offers tremendous value, will disappear.

On the other hand, if people don't upgrade en masse, then perhaps Corel will take the time to understand the issues and address them. Product development should address longstanding issues such as stability and sluggishness, and not focus solely on adding additional features.

Perhaps they have addressed some of the longstanding issues with VS2021, but they certainly didn't when they released VS2019 and then VS2020.

The great thing about Corel products are that they are perpetual licenses. You don't have to upgrade if you don't want to and if the version you are using meets your requirements. Stability hasn't stopped me from using the software - it hasn't been a major issue for me. As for suggishness, upgrade in hardware tends to offset that issue to an extent. it isn't an excuse for inefficient coding but it is an available option. In my opinion, I think they have done a pretty good job in keeping Video Studio relevant to today's consumer market.

EXACTLY the reason I'm not upgrading--maybe they'll finally figure out that a stable program that works is much more important than snazzy bells and whistles that few people use...

imaref, your post is incorrect - Vdanny did not write that comment that was "tletter", in fact Vdanny has only praised the 2021 program and not had any crashes......
Imaref you should upgrade to 2021 and experience the program for yourself, you can test over 30 days, then ask for a refund.

Personally I have not had a crash using the full release version of Corel Video Studio 2021 certainly appears to be more stable than the previous versions, lets hope it stays that way.

In fact not many reports of crashes on the forum, one today that may be the users environment.

I think the release is pretty stable on my computer. It has done everything I've asked of it without an issue.
Someone else was mentioning "crashed 50 times", but gave no specific information on the "who, what, where, when" type of thing.
Heck, even the AR stickers have provided me with a way to make fun of my wife. Even she laughed.

The sluggishness that I refer to, i.e. dragging the scrubber over a large range, is independent of the hardware involved.

Speaking of hardware, I noticed no difference in VS performance between an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER, and an Intel Core i7-8086K with an NVIDIA GTX 1070 . Undoubtedly because VS is unable to fully utilize the hardware. Hence throwing money at new hardware only gets you so far in improving VS's performance.

It's not clear if the narrator of your video produced identical VSPs in VS2018 and VS2021 as he has TM blocking out a 1/3 of the screen. In short, it is a hard to follow the test, but it does show that VS2021 still has sluggishness during editing and options such as Smart Render can corrupt the rendered output.

Listing a URL w/o any explanation of what you think it shows, makes it difficult to know what point you think it makes. What do you think that your video illustrates?

That user was amazed how quickly his project was rendered in 2021 vs his 2018.
