OK, cheers, I am just hugely confused about whether the program is 64 or 32 bit. My Win 7 is 64 bit, but of course it will run 32 bit programs. It won't run some old Win 3.11 programs without massive tinkering, and certainly not DOS games without a DOSBox build.

Thanks so much for all the help! I downloaded everything and will try this all out later. I'll try the mui-helper thing first, as if that works it will be the easiest and fastest fix.

sfc/ scannow said everything was fine, but i do have several video and DVD players. I suppose they may have replaced Kernelbase.dll with a different version and screwed things up, but I certainly will have had many Windows updates in the last 8 years. Except that I've had this problem since 2012 or 2013 and the alleged culprit updates were a couple of years later.

Well, your grey cells may be just waking up, but I have been up all night, so need to have a lie down!

If its is a 32 bit the installation folder will be here
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X5

If 64 bit will be here
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X5
