Nice of you Shadow to come back 8 years after your initial problem with X5.
You keep writing that X5 is free for grab but you do not link it.
If you think that all this entitle you to the free current VS2021 version than this forum can't help you, go ahead to Corel top brass.

I reinstalled it from the disk and it still will not start. I notice this version is now available free, but it cannot run on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit?

Where did you find that, certainly not from any official Corel site

Are you referring to a pirate software site offering cracked versions? If not, then please post the Corel URL where X5 is being given out as freeware.

Who said it's corrupted?

It is the responsibility of Corel to honour the licence I paid for.

Where are these mythical hotfixes to be found?

No, I was referring to hits that came up on Google when I was searching for the hotfixes that nobody knows where they are. It's irrelevant to me if they are hacks as I bought this heap of junk in 2012 and haven't been able to use it since 2013. If you are interested, search for yourself.

FWIW VS X5 SP1, 2 and 3 are available here: https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/suppo ... p-previous I believe there were some hotfixes in 2012/13 but I don't know if they are included within any of these service packs.

Tap on the Windows key on your keyboard and type Command prompt.
Right click and Run as administrator.
Type: regsvr32 KERNELBASE.dll
Restart the computer and check.
Thanks for that attempt to be helpful.

I tried that and got this error message:

Some things to try
1 / Reset the program by deleting the 15.0 folder from here
C:\Users\Trevor\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro
and here
C:\Users\Trevor\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)
Try running the program again, new 15.0 folders will be created.

2 / If you haven’t done so try downloading the Service Packs 1 , 2 and 3 from the Corel we site, install SP1 then SP2 and finally SP3
https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/suppo ... p-previous

3 / Uninstall using the Cleanup tool, then install X5 again + Service Packs
https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59847

Sorry for repeating the Service pack details provided by Ken, missed that post whilst on the school run

Cheers, I tried that and it didn't replace anything because VSP instantly crashes and cannot run at all, so of course cannot replace anything.

I'll try your and Ken's other suggestions.

It's interesting how some people are trying hard to be helpful while the odd few are just nobheads making jibes. I suppose it's a wide, wide world.

I signed up here in April 2012, either because that is when I bought VSP x5 or because it started crashing mid-edit. Some time in 2013 it would not run it all. I recently wanted to edit a video, so I am trying to get it to work again. I'd have thought that after installing from disk it would automatically get any updates, but if the progrm has to run first in order to do that, maybe not!

The grey matter is just waking up.
There was a problem running all Video Studio programs after a windows update, Corel provided a fix for X7 onwards, a manual approach was need to fix earlier versions.
You should also try replacing the MUIHelper file from X7 to earlier versions of Video Studio
Locate the MUIHelper.dll file which should be in the programs installation files here C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel or here C:\Program Files\Corel, depends if the program is 32 bit or 64 bit?
Rename the original file just to save the copy, then paste the MUIHelper file attached

This post refers, although they may be posts

Post Updated
It was a lady called “Dawncold” that first identified the MUIhelper.dll, so if it works it is thanks to her

I am sligtly confused

https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/suppo ... p-previous

has 32 bit SP1 and SP2 for VideoStudio Pro X5, and SP3 for Corel VideoStudio Pro x5 Ultimate, which is the one I actually have. The "Ultimate" part on the box was above the title and in smaller type so I missed it. And as only that one says Corel, did they buy it out from another company?

Anyway, the SP3 one just says "Windows", and doesn't say if it's 32 or 64 bit, and neither does the box.

So should I install all three or just SP3?

Corel VideoStudio Pro/Ultimate X5 Service Pack 3 (Windows) Released: 2015-09-11
VideoStudio Pro X5 Service Pack 2 (Windows 32 Bit) Released: 2013-03-01
VideoStudio Pro X5 Service Pack 1 (Windows 32 Bit) Released: 2012-06-04

Many Thanks

Yes, I came across that when searching, or maybe it was in one of the replies to my 2013 thread but I misssed it as I got no e-mail notification and just gave up.

But you have added extra info!

I do have those mui files on my system.

Many Thanks

PS I cannot tell if my Pro x5 Ultimate is 32 or 64 bt

Service Packs for the earlier versions of Video Studio had to be installed in order otherwise a message relating to " cannot find correct version " would show.
