VideoStudio Pro x5 will not start, just crashes instantly

Post by Shadowblade »

I bought this in 2012 and it stopped working a couple of years later. But now I want to use it again.

I reinstalled it from the disk and it still will not start. I notice this version is now availble free, but it cannot run on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit?

My system is the same as it was except I have an Nvidea instead of Radeon Card.

Why is it instantly crashing as soon as I try to launch it?It started after an update years ago. If this is some sort of planned obsolescence?

I am not interested in hearing about Win 7 not being supported anymore as it's irrelevant, and I have less than Zero interest in upgrading the video editing software to the latest version. I want the product I paid for to run again on the same machine it ran on when I paid for it.

Many Thanks

Have you run system file check? Have you tried to replace KERNELBASE.dll?

Open a command prompt window as administrator.

Type in "sfc /scannow" (without the " marks) then ENTER. Note the space between sfc and /.

The system will check the Microsoft Windows files. If there are problems it will attempt to repair them.

Thanks for the link, but I'm not downloading any "PC Optimiser" DubiousWare when I can stop services manually. My main query is where do I get a genuine, safe replacement dll?

The Win 7 ones I have are dated 3rd Jan, 2021, as I updated Win 7 in January, but VideoStudio Pro x5 stopped working in 2013. So it's not like my Windows is too new and VSP x5 too ancient. The problem started as soon as x6 was realeased and I sent 20 e-mails telling me to upgrade to the spam bin.

As I said before, I will NEVER use another Corel product as long as I live if I cannot get x5 to work. I hardly used the damn thing and made only a few videos before it broke. So I'll be looking for another product from a different company.

Cheers.

You may be missing a hotfix for VS in a win7 environment, but I suspect it was not issued for X5. Explanation:
about 2016/17 ?? (about the time of X9) MS made a change to the OS incl win7 in a patch tuesday release: that impacted just about every video editor on the market; killed them immediately when trying to start. Application panic. There was a hotfix issued for the current and several prior versions of VS - back to X7, I think. Somewhere on this forum there is an old topic on this and a list of the available hotfixes: published by lata as I recall. But if it wasn't issued for X5, and you cannot get X5 to work with a hotfix issued for a later version - you are on a lonely submerged rock. The only suggestion I can make is to upgrade, or try a different editor.

But they make x5 availble as a free download. What's the point of that if it cannot work?

In any event, x5 stopped working for me in 2013.

Then I want a refund or a free upgrade to a version that works. I paid for a licence and it was not a 12 month licence. Who do I contact about this?

Cheers.

I had X5 running on Win 7 for years and then performed an in-place update to Win 10, afterwhich X5 continues to function (see image). In any event as X5 was released in 2013, is it reasonable to expect Corel to support X5? Should Corel also support X2, X3 and X4?

Have you installed all the VS and Win7 relevant hotfixes and service packs since 2013? If you search this forum, you'll find old discussions of users having problems with VS starting after a Win 7 SP and the solution.

x5 was 2012, it stopped working in 2013.

It's reasonable for them to honour the licence they sold me. It was not time-limited.

Win 10 is Micro$loth malware unless you have the Enterprize version where you can turn off the data theft and it stays off. In Win 10 Home etc, it makes it look like you have done it, but it never turns off and cannot be turned off.

I once got a new Age of Empires disk from them because it was cracked after years of use and the game was unplayable. They referred me to the vendor. I referred them to their licence agreement, where they sold me a licence, not the software medium, and I must have workable medium in order to use the licence, so replace the disk or give me a refund, as your licence says. After a bit of back and forth they sent me a new disk.

I tried searching for these hotfixes and come up nowhere.

If this is the VideoStudio Pro forum, these hotfixes should be pinned.

KernelBase.dll is a dll file located in the system folder of the Windows OS and is created automatically during the Windows installation. So if your version of the dll is corrupted it is NOT the responsibility of Corel to fix it
You could try to register the .dll file.
Tap on the Windows key on your keyboard and type Command prompt.
Right click and Run as administrator.
Type: regsvr32 KERNELBASE.dll
Restart the computer and check.
