Video Studio X8/2018 Export Options Greyed Out

I am trying to export an MP4 video and the export options are greyed out. I get exactly the same problem in Video Syudio 2018. Also the preview pane on the left is blank.

I must be following the wrong procedure for exporting.

In the Edit Tab, I am dragging the mp4 file to the media pane on the right. After clicking on it I can see it in the view pane. Then I am clicking on the share tab.

assuming you have checked (by clicking on that very small white down pointing arrow in the profile name box ) that there is not already a profile which meets your requirements then click on that bright white 'plus' sign and you will be given the options to create a new profile with the characteristics you require - save that with a new name and it will be available for future use

Just to confuse the properties are a little grey, but still active, you would expect the text to be sharper
All versions of video studio show the text the same.

Thank you both for your replies. I apologise, but it has been a very long time since I used Video Studio and I forgot how to create a project! I was trying to export a file by clicking on a video in the library window without first creating a project!

I forgot first to use File/Insert media to timeline! Now with the project created, the export works properly.

Actually, you don't need to create a project but you must have media added to at least one media track (Video, Overlay, Title, Voice or Music).
