Archive Video Project

Post by wa2pux »

I currently am using Corel Video Studio 2020 Premium.

I have used Corel video Studio for quite a few years and have
consistently upgraded throughout those years.

I have OLD Corel Video Studio projects I wish to archive and then clean
off my active disk.

There is a plethora of files (I suppose) in various places that were
generated when the project was edited and rendered.
(Previous to Corel, I used Pinnacle and it generated a HUGE number of
files in multiple places.)

I need to know what files I:
  • Should put in the archive location, and where they are at, so that I can
resurrect this project should I need to in the future
  • Can dispose of, and where they are at, so as to effectively clean the
    disk space.

You should first try opening each project making sure they are working correctly with no re-links required
Then you can try to create a Smart Package, go to File Smart Package
That should copy all files used in the project to a separate folder, this will allow you to archive your project. Smart Package does have its limitations that restrict its use, some effects, mercalli stabilisation may require analysing again.

To locate the existing files on the hard drive is going to take a bit of work, You can start by right clicking a clip on the timeline for Locate on Computer, you would have to do that for many of your files.

This sounds like a painful process. :-(

Creating the Smart Package is easy, if it works, and that will depend on the project content.

Its finding the files used within the project that could be difficult when you have no idea as to their locations.

When i start a new project all my Video, Images, Audio are saved to a new folder then imported to Video Studio, my own smart package
The project file .VSP is also saved to the same folder
