As you most probably know there is a new image format *.webp in Internet.
Ok, I admit, I am running an older Version of PSP X2, that cannot handle such a new format.
Is there a way to add the capability afterwards (e.g. by plugin)?
If not: What would be the most easiest way to (automatically/manually by drag & drop) convert such a *.webp to the most suitable standard format *.png or *.jpg?
Which (tiny) tool is recommended?

Convert *.webp images to *.png/*.jpg?

I think later versions of PSP support webp directly, but probably not all variants. You can try online webp converters, or install Google's Photoshop WebShop plugin to PSP.

Ok, thank you.
I downloaded the suggested WebPshop plugin and put it into the "Plugin" subfolder for PSP.
Unfortunately PSP does not recognize this plugin (after restart).
Is it because it is in (newer) *.8bi format and not in (older) *.8bf format?
Is there a similar Plugin in *.8bf format for PSP X2?

Re: Convert *.webp images to *.png/*.jpg?
*.8bi is for file format plugins so it's correct. If you're using X2 you're going to need to use the 32-bit version. X2 is a 32-bit program and can't use 64-bit plugins as they aren't compatible. Following the link migf1 gave only the alpha version has a pre-build 32-bit version of the plugin.
If the plugin works then you should see webp as an option when opening an image via File->Open and when saving via File -> Save As.
If the plugin doesn't work you can also download and use Google's official libwebp programs to convert JPEG and PNG files to WebP and webP to PNG. You can see instructions here - https://developers.google.com/speed/webp/docs/using

Re: Convert *.webp images to *.png/*.jpg?
Ok, after I copied 32bit .8bi Plugin v0.2.1 into plugin directory of PSP X2 I can see .webp extension appears in File Open dialog.
So it should be accepted as valid by PSP X2.
However when I try to open it (vie File Open menu or via Drag &Drop) PSP X2 crashes suddenly.
Any solution?
Maybe there is a workaround similar to:
if PSP recognizes a file extension *.webp then an external pre-processing script convert.bat is started
which converts it on-the-fly to a *.png file and finally loads it instead?
Any idea is appreciated
Peter

Try this plugin - http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/product/WebPFormat
