Can you amend the compression settings for the DEFAULT "SAVE" settings for JPG's and is so where - I am Still on X9.
I want to get the default SAVE to use same compression factors as the SAVE AS options settings.
To explain..
If I edit a 10Mb JPG. Then simply SAVE the file, It is saved but it is compressed down to about 1.2Mb (I understand why .. and that's NOT the issue)
But if I use F12 "Save AS" and do NOT change the filename, and therefore overwrite the file with itself, it retains its 10MB size.. ( Adopting the compression settings I'd already set in the SAVE AS OPTIONS - lossless etc).
This is a series of extra steps that aren't really needed. And should I forget to use "save as" , I massively drop the file size. ( yes always keep an original )
SO... -
How do I get the standard "SAVE" option to adopt those same compression used by "SAVE AS" as the default ?
Anyone ?
PS - I do understand the perils of JPG , lossy etc versus other formats.. but that's not the concern here.
SAVE versus SAVE AS settings.

Re: SAVE versus SAVE AS settings.
I don't remember the details on this. It's been forever. There was a whole discussion on this when Corel changed how this worked. Probably still somewhere on the forums.
I did a quick test, here's what it looks like. If you use SaveAs on an image, it'll use those same settings on that same image every time you hit Save. You have to use Save As on every image at least once, and then every subsequent save on that one image will use those default settings. I believe this is meant to allow you to use different settings on a per-image basis. But you have to use SaveAs the first time if you want to use a different setting level than the default of 20.

Re: SAVE versus SAVE AS settings.
That's really annoying but thanks for the answer.
I dont plan on ever editing the image. I've scanning film negatives... and then just clearing up dust spots etc.. and therefore want to save the image as the 'original', never to be edited again.
Using SAVE AS every time and overwriting the file, is a few extra steps but more annoying when you forget and just click save... Rescanning means the 'clean up' needs to be started again.
OH well.
Amazed you can't edit the DEFAULT as a 'preference' setting. Seems pretty standard option.. ie. Set your default save settings.

Re: SAVE versus SAVE AS settings.
If you have auto-preserve turned on then you can revert an image back to how it was when you first opened it. So if you accidentally Save instead of Save As, provided you have auto-preserve turned on, you should be able to use the Restore Original command which will replace the current image with the backed up copy.
Normally what I would do especially if it involves cleaning the image is to save periodically. So I'll open an image, hit SaveAs immediately to set up the default save settings for this image, and then edit and save periodically. All subsequent saves will have that new default setting for this image. It took a little getting used to but now it's pretty much muscle memory.
There are other options of course.
You could remove the normal "Save" as an option. Literally remove it from the menus, toolbar, and remove the keyboard shortcut from the Save command and always use SaveAs for everything. This forces you to use SaveAs even when you just hit Ctrl + S to save.
It's also possible to create a script that uses the current image's path and a pre-defined set of standards and executes silently like Save does. Again removing Save and replacing it with this script. It would have to be a little smart to act differently on non-jpg images. But it would act in a very similar manner to having preset save settings.
