Render Has Random Blinks
I've been around since uLead days so I am more than familiar with the quirks of of this software. I have to say I am at my wits end and about to jump ship. I've been running 2020 since November and it's been fine up until today. I went to render a project and the mp4 had about a dozen blips throughout the file. Audio is unaffected. It was not a complicated render. 5 video layers 3 of which are stills and 2 audio layers, 2 1/2 minutes long. The blips were random and not happening where edits occur. I tried everything, with and without smart render, with and with out hardware acceleration, both cuda and intel, render to mp4, render to wmv. The blips actually seemed to be getting more prevalent with each render. From here I started rendering with 1 layer removed at a time until I got a clean render. I literally replaced the offending clip with exactly the same source file and it rendered fine. That was a solid 4 hours to troubleshoot. Great right? No. I went to render another quickie project, 2 minutes, 1 video layer, 1audio layer, and exactly the same thing. WTF? Like I said everything was fine up until today. The last project was a thousand times more edit intensive and I didn't experience anything like this. I would go back and rerender that file if I weren't so spent and pissed right now.

- When you start a new project , enable the "Show message when inserting first video clip into the Timeline" option so that VS can match the source video clip's properties.
- When you're rendering, select the option to render based on the project's properties.

Re: Render Has Random Blinks
Do you have either hardware acceleration or SmartRender enabled. If so, disable whichever is enabled and run again. It will be much slower, but hopefully might work without glitches.

Re: Render Has Random Blinks
just to add Smart Proxy files have been known to affect quality for some video projects, If using SP you should disable and also delete the proxy files.
You do not give any properties of your project or the video files, nor do you say what you are rendering to, where possible all should be the same

Re: Render Has Random Blinks
tletter,
As mentioned, I've been using some form of this software for over a decade. Of course I match my properties to my source files.
Ken,
I rendered with and without hardware acceleration. I tried both cuda and intel when rendering with hardware acceleration. I rendered with and without smart render which BTW made zero difference in rendering time. I know this isn't correct. Smart render should be much faster on a re-render with little to no changes. I did check my system performance during a couple of the renders, 45% cpu, 25% gpu were roughly the top demands.
Lata,
My source video files are mp4 30 fps and mts from a handy cam. My stills are mostly pngs, sometimes a jpg. Imported audio files are 44.1 wav. I export to mp4 at 30fps. I did try an export to wmv with the same results. I did not delete smart proxy files. That's very counter intuitive. I will try that but if I find a bad edit in the render, this means I will have to recreate the proxy files, edit the project, delete the proxy files again, and re render? kluge city.
Anytime I've had a problem in the past, it's been because: a. I inserted a bad source file (bad fps or weird audio bit rate. b. Made a bad edit (2 timelines edited 1 frame apart or a 1 frame gap will kill one's render) c. software has gotten too far out of date for the OS. I don't know what the problem is this time. I do know I've lost this entire weekend dealing with this.

I had the similar problem when using blending modes in overlays. Try to render with Intel not Cude HW accel. And try to render WMV file in 1080p instead of mp4.

Re: Render Has Random Blinks
cybernick,
I don't think I had any blending tweaks. I do however have some color corrections. I wouldn't consider that a heavy lift for this app. I tried both cuda and intel, with and w/o hw acceleration and I also tried to render to wmv.
I did check my source files and renders in both WMP & VLG players with the same results so the junk is truly in the render. Both offending source files were mp4s created as remuxes from OBS streaming files. I've done this hundreds of times w/o issue. As mentioned earlier, I rendered a project about a week ago that easily had 1000 edits, 6 or 7 layers thick, waaaay more complex and there wasn't an issue. I was truly happy how much better VSU2020 ran on our new machine. Now I'm far from happy.

Re: Render Has Random Blinks
Deleted smart proxy file no change upon render, 21 blips.
Zeroed all color balance settings and render had only 1 blip so cybernick wins the prize.
This is beyond tedious.

It's a shame that in over a decade you've only contributed 6 posts to this forum and those only when you've had an issue. Perhaps in future you'll help others when they have issues.ToxWat wrote:As mentioned, I've been using some form of this software for over a decade. Of course I match my properties to my source files.

Do you really want the blind leading the blind? I really shouldn't be giving advice. I create about 2 to 10 videos a year.

Re: Render Has Random Blinks
Hi,
I am not sure if it something you want to consider but I sometimes render with an intermediate codec first. I use Cineform avi and then render that output file to MP4 using Handbrake (with Intel QSV).
