I am not sure what Video Studio Pro 2020, VSP 2020, calls them

They are the clips you select when you first see a video on a page (before playing it)

How do I assign a thumbnail to a video in VSP 2020?

I believe this is a YouTube function and not one that Video Studio supports
I googled “YouTube Embedded Link” and found many tutorials and instructions.

Video Studio can create a HTML5 project that supports links, however I believe these are to be embedded into our web sites and not uploaded to You Tube, others on the forum that use YT may have a better understanding.


I have to say I have never use the HTML5 option other than testing
Go to File – New HTML5 Project
Adding your completed video to the top track
Add an image / logo / thumbnail to the overlay track
Right click the clip for Add Link will allow you to add a URL

How do I assign a thumbnail to a video in VSP 2020?

When you upload a video to YT, YT will auto-generate 3 thumbnails extracted from your upload. As well, many YT creators have the feature available in YT Studio to upload a custom thumbnail to be used in lieu of the 3 auto-generated thumbnails. You must use YT Studio to select thumbnails for your uploads.

VS has naught to do with YT thumbnails.

I am looking for something equivalent in Video Studio Pro to what You Tube calls its thumbnail.

This is the image displayed for the video posted on a page before you hit the play button.

Maybe called video preview?

I’ve created thumbnails by playing back my video in full screen, pausing at the frame I want, and then doing a screen shot. The resulting PNG can be uploaded as the thumbnail in the YT control panel.
