After 2 hrs. of searching and experimenting I cannot find a video showing how to use vector images on a concrete colored background to look as if the image is engraved. I want to engrave a flower on a concrete slab. Cutouts with solid colors or a transparent image work, but trying to flood fill with the concrete pattern ruins the cutout. Does anyone know of a free script that will do that?
(OT: I still cannot fix my "Fit to Image" problem that I posted about a while back, but I just live with it as I do with the popup brush upsell that disrupts my train of thought whenever I use brushes.)

When I want to engrave text into a surface, e.g. onto sand or concrete I use a 2 step process.
I do the text and then Create a Raster Selection.
I then click on the image layer and Promote to Layer.
While selection is active I then use 3D Effects Cutout. e.g. Settings 4, 4, 80, 10.00, Shadow black.
Then I use 3D Effects Drop Shadow. e.g. Settings 1,1,100,1, colour white.
Select none.
The above settings gives me this result.
I'd adjust my settings to suit the project I'm working on.

I'm not the OP but am following this thread. I believe the OP also wanted the grain of the concrete to show through the text. Do you have a step that could do that also? Another reply pointed to a script but it costs 5.99 which seems to me a bit high to pay for something that you have done so well but just missing a way to add the texture of the underlying concrete (or brick or other such substance) to show through.patara wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 1:36 amWhen I want to engrave text into a surface, e.g. onto sand or concrete I use a 2 step process.

Re: Do I Need A Script for This?
Watching this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIQM2-dK_js
I am once again reminded how much Corel half-bakes their tools before moving on to other things. (we don't have nearly half the options that even the normal commands do, let alone with Photoshop can do)
But, more importantly, it shows a method people probably haven't considered. Using Layer Styles. Though limited they can be used to make a subtle engraved effect. And because they are styles applied to the layer you can keep the vector without using selections or converting the vector to a raster. You'll notice the texture also shows through.
To do this I set the "Layer" layer style to opacity 1. This hides the actual text showing only the effects that have been applied.
Turned on "Bevel" layer style with a low opacity. Color black opacity 20, size 100
Turned on "Inner Glow" set to black, middle of the road opacity but small size: Black, Size 15, Opacity 52
I did not use Drop Shadow, but you could if you wanted to.

The base surface does show through for me. Nothing is covering it but the shading used in the Cutout Tool.
e.g. I didn't mention, but I close off my text after I've made the selection.
I make the selection where I want the final engrave to be and then I promote the selection from the base material, in this case concrete.
So now I have a text selection filled with the concrete, which matches the concrete underneath and then I apply the shading to that using Cutout and then Drop Shadow.
The opacity could be changed, also the Shadow colour could be adjusted.
I've never had to but perhaps a Layer Mode may work.
It can also be done without promoting the base layer as in the following screenshot, but either way the result looks the same.
Some fonts look better than others. Same for choice of background.

Re: Do I Need A Script for This?
Thank you so much everyone!
I shall experiment with all of these. The depth on @patara's samples is exactly what I need. @Kathy I saw that particular script mentioned when I did my internet searches but the previews show it leaving an embossed edge. I'm needing a clean edge as in the text samples above. The problem with images as opposed to fonts is that the free brushes I'm using are not always a good quality. They are fine for painting as is, but doing anything like cutouts or inner bevels makes them look messy.
